Range Extended Vehicle REHEV

Abstract

The project objective was to develop a modular electric & electric/diesel powertrain, suitable for several different vehicle types. The aim was to develop the modularity such that the costs can be contained within a viable business case for any application. The performance target was to achieve in excess of a 35% reduction in cycle CO2 emissions for a large premium sport utility platform, with a zero emissions range of at least 12 miles. Test vehicles were be built to investigate range extension and plug-in charging and to establish and develop the viability of these technologies to maximise low carbon potential, including the installation and commissioning of local recharging facilities for the vehicles. The project stretch objectives were to ultimately to place the vehicle within the 120 to 130 g/km CO2 range and achieve a zero emissions range of 15 miles.

The project was successful in achieving and significantly exceeding the agreed and stretch targets. The project achieved the following:-
• 94.8g/km CO2
• 19.3 miles Zero emission range
