Mission Room Market Proving - AIMS Solutions

Abstract
This project aims to acquire specific market knowledge that will ultimately lead to more
efficient, more effective and safer training for hazardous industries in the UK and abroad.
Over the last 2 years AIMS Solutions have been developing an immersive display technology
called Mission Room (www.missionroom.com) that allows people to be totally surrounded by
360 degree, images, video and sound. The system has many potential uses but the primary
target market is to train people in hazardous industries. The system sits between a safe but
theoretical classroom situation and the hazardous real life workplace allowing people to
experience real life dangers in complete safety. It is estimated that hazardous training has a
market value of £2.6B in the UK alone.
The technology has already been developed and can be rapidly customised for a wide variety
of different workplaces and industries. Initial response has been highly positive but there is
some resistance along the lines that whilst the approach is highly innovative it is currently
unproven. Explaining how the system would fit into existing training regimes is also an issue.
Our objective in this project is to carry out a detailed analysis of how Mission Room can
impact positively on a specific hazardous training market. We have chosen personal trackside
safety training within the rail sector as the focus for the study. The general conclusions drawn
from the study will have application in a wide number of similar industrial safety situations.
Our plan is to work with an established rail training provider who have close links with
Network Rail to produce a full market exploitation plan that fits in with the highly regulated
training environment and the multiple training providers that actually provide trackside
training. The study will pave the way for exploitation by answering a number of the issues
above and will shape the marketing and sales plan going forward.
