Title Carnivalising the Creative Economy: AHRC-funded Research on and With British Jazz Festivals 
Description 15-minute film featuring jazz and festival researchers, as well as leading UK jazz festival directors, talking about the impact of academic research in festival programming. Includes contributions from Glasgow, London, Cheltenham Jazz Festivals. Film produced by McKay, shot and edited by Gemma Thorpe, funded by AHRC small award to McKay, as part of the activities for the 2014 AHRC Creative Economy Showcase at King's Place,London.

Impact 1. film screened at King's Place Cleaver Economy Showcase, at Rhythm Changes intentional jazz conference,at 2014 Carnivalsing Pop conference (Salford) and 2015 Festival Cultures conference (UEA). 2. At King's Place day, screening was accompanied by a public panel of contributors from academia and industry discussing jazz festivals, programming,research. C. 40 people in audience. 3. Subsequent work by McKay in collaboration with Cheltenham and EFG London Jazz Festivals, and securing major funding from EU Heritage Plus JPI for European jazz festivals project (2015-17).

Description With well over 300 projects funded and 500 community partners participating in Connected Communities this very large programme has identified and shared best practice and new thinking around the co-design and co-production of research--high level arts and humanities collaborative research practice. Across the programme we continue to work on strengthening CC's potentially transformative legacy.
Exploitation Route Further investment in programme legacy and policy work, identification of and work with key relatively under-resourced arts and humanities areas to date (e.g. literature), working across themes with other Leadership Fellows to identify common areas, problem ,solutions, dialogues, arguments and dissensus.

Description In the context of a key leadership role for one of RCUK's cross-council and multidisciplinary programmes, Connected Communities has had tremendous impact by virtue of its over 300 awards, working in collaboration with over 500 community partners. Helping to shape and advise on priorities and funding decisions, as well as on AHRC funding policy, the leadership fellowship position has had influence in the development of co-productio and co-design of research activities cross the arts and humanities.

Results and Impact Developing my 2011 innovation of the appointment of a professor in residence at a festival, here I worked with EFG London Jazz Festival. We co-curated a series of talks through the festival, related to its musical programme, most of he panels being chaired or introduced by me. This was very successful--the influential Jazz Mann website called it 'a unique and brilliant appointment. In 2015 and 2016 I worked further with the festival in identifying a new professor in residence for each of those year's festivals.
