Exploiting microbial genomics and synthetic biology for discovery of novel antibiotics

Lead Research Organisation: University of Warwick
Department Name: Chemistry

Abstract

Abstracts are not currently available in GtR for all funded research. This is normally because the abstract was not required at the time of proposal submission, but may be because it included sensitive information such as personal details.

Description We have discovered novel natural products from Streptomyces species and developed novel synthetic biology tools for use in this genus
Exploitation Route The novel natural products can be screened for biological activity. This may result in the discovery of novel leads for antibiotics, anticancer agents or agrochemicals.

The novel synthetic biology tools can be used by others to refactor biosynthetic pathways and create novel gene expression systems.
