The Arabidopsis NOT4A E3 ligase promotes PGR3 expression and regulates chloroplast translation.
in Nature communications
Description | This award allowed Dr Mark Bailey to travel to Turku in Finland, where he carried out essential experiments to investigate how mutating a specific protein in Arabidopsis called NOT4A affects photosynthesis. We showed that plants with reduced levels of NOT4A have lower levels of photosynthetic capacity, which therefore tells us that NOT4A plays a positive role in controlling photosynthesis. This accompanies our molecular data that shows NOT4A is required for regulating normal functions of the chloroplast through promoting the synthesis of proteins encoded by chloroplast genes. The outputs form the research visit have now been published in Bailey et al 2021 Nature Communciations. |
Exploitation Route | This data will contribute to an upcoming publication that identifies a new mechanisms controlling chloroplast form and function in relation to photosynthetic capacity. As such, it identifies new targets that could be manipulated to alter photosynthesis. |
