CONNECT: Catalysing Opportunities for New Collaborative Exchanges and Training
Lead Research Organisation:
Babraham Institute
Department Name: Babraham Commercialisation Services
Abstract
A focused event in Newcastle featuring speakers representing all cohorts will kick off this grant, ensuring known and potential knowledge-sharing opportunities are rapidly developed. A joint in-person and hybrid seminar series will continue throughout the FTMA, alternating between Newcastle and Cambridge, to continually raise visibility. This continued and focused knowledge exchange will underpin all four main FTMA activities:
Three competitive calls per year for knowledge exchange projects will allow agile decisions on opportunities as they arise. Proposals will be competitively assessed by a joint NU and BI Steering Committee, ensuring opportunities are fully capitalised upon. The three-year term will enable early opportunities to be developed for maximum strategic impact for the partners.
2. RTP and PES skills development will provide opportunities for researchers, RTPs and PES to undertake skills exchanges to consolidate existing expertise and develop new knowledge in scientific and operational areas.
3. Development of Technician and Early-Career Researcher Development frameworks. Funding will be provided to support establishing and embedding these at a local level.
4. Enterprise. BI and NU will amplify the impact of their research, development and commercialisation activities though their strong connections with translational and clinical advisers who are embedded in the joint Steering Committee, providing extensive expertise in translational research and enterprise and access to further networks. Funds will enable exchanges between individuals and cohorts to share know-how and network across accelerators and bio-incubators, sharing best practice, mentorship, investment opportunities and peer-to-peer learning.
The strong commitment to this application is evidenced by the significant in-kind support from NU and BI to ensure funds support a significant number of activities. We are confident of the strong long-term benefits from this award, already-proposed projects will prime three follow-on grant applications, two publications, and develop IP for three BI translational projects.
