Description This was a workshop with approx. 15 UK delegates. Hence outputs are difficult to quantify. However, it has clearly led to increased bilateral collaboration, with support from EMBRAPA and BBSRC Newton Fund. Paul Nicolson (JIC) received further funding as a result of the workshop: Brazil Partnership award with Embrapa Trigo (completed); Embrapa-BBSRC-Newton fund Pump-priming award (completed) and Embrapa-BBSRC-Newton fund full award (ongoing)
Exploitation Route Supported by joint BBSRC:EMBRAPA grants and Newton Fund grants.

PI Contribution At this workshop, Kim Hammond-Kosack met Professor Emerson de Ponte (Department of PhytoPathology , Universida de Federal de Viçosa,, Professor Dauri Tessmann (Department of Agronomy, Universida de Estadual de Maringá) and Dr José Maurício Cunha Fernandes ( EMBRAPA Trigo Passo Fundo).
Collaborator Contribution Post the workshop Jon West and Kim Hammond-Kosack started to develop jointly with these Brazilian scientists Fusarium head blight - wheat project ideas involving disease modelling and forecasting , species diagnostics via genomic sequencing of all five species found in the Fusarium complex in Southern Brazil and to explore new ways to control this serious disease.
Impact 1. Arrival of Dr Natalia Martins, from Embrapa LabEx, Brasilia as a Senior Research Fellow; 2. Ana Machado, a Master student from Professor De Ponte group , successfully applied for PhD funding within the CAPES 'Science Without Borders' Brazil schema; 3. A one year pump priming project funded by the Newton Foundation; 4. A successful follow-on project of 3 years duration. See further funding from more details
