Abstract
Abstracts are not currently available in GtR for all funded research. This is normally because the abstract was not required at the time of proposal submission, but may be because it included sensitive information such as personal details.
| Description | This fund has helped to develop a collaborative link with Professor Akihiro Yamanaka at Nagoya University in Japan. We made mutual visits with PhD students. We also organised two symposia at the international setting by inviting prominent scientists in the field, including a Nobel laureate. In 2016, we also organised a symposium at the FENS Forum, the largest neuroscience conference in Europe. Furthermore, we also organised a workshop to bring lab members from both labs in July 2018, alongside the FENS Forum in Berlin. Thus, this fund made significant contributions to the development of international partnership between the UK and Japan. |
| Exploitation Route | For academic impacts, this award has helped to develop a research network by organising symposia with Professor Yanamanaka. Therefore, leveragining this network, we would explore further opportunities for international collaborations. In addition, early career scientists who travelled to or from Japan were exposed by research environment in different countries. Their experience will contribute to enhancing international collaborations in future. |

| Results and Impact | This event was held in Tokyo, December 2015. The topic was on neural circuit and neuromodulation. 12 international speakers were invited with one Nobel laureate (Professor Susumu Tonegawa) and one Brain Prize winner (Professor Gero Miesenbock). We had around 200 participants with 23 poster presentations. The two-day international symposium was largely successful. |
