Abstract

Abstracts are not currently available in GtR for all funded research. This is normally because the abstract was not required at the time of proposal submission, but may be because it included sensitive information such as personal details.

Description The award primarily covered market research, which has successfully established that there is a definite market for the science that we wish to develop.

The award also provided minor funding towards key scientific milestones. 3 out of the 4 such objectives were achieved within the award and the 4th firstly via my innovator of the year award and more recently as part of the PhD research conducted by Dr Marta Ferreira Amaral. Unfortunately, a robust solution to objective 4 remains elusive, despite many approaches both from literature precedent and our own novel approaches.
Exploitation Route SInce we have been unable to create a robust and straightforward method to analyse synthetic aminoacylation, it is unlikely that we will be pursuing the award further. Findings have been distributed for use by others via conference posters and Dr Ferreira Amaral's PhD thesis, which will be published via the British Library EThOS system in due course.

Description I was invited to speak in non-confidential terms about my work at the BBSRC headquarters at the BBSRC quarterly meeting. We will need development funding before more substantive impact can be achieved. Current work on the related studentship is promising. Likewise the feedback on commercial interest from the current study was promising. I anticipate application for further funding (possibly follow-on-fund) towards the end of the studentship. Update: The studentship was completed recently and although an excellent thesis, unfortunately the work therein confirmed that this process is currently far too complex for scale-up / commercial viability.
