Abstract

Tumour cells release large amounts of vesicles (small membrane-enclosed sacs) rich in molecules that promote cell proliferation, migration and survival, and are known to promote the progression of cancer. We have recently identified that autotaxin is also associated with these vesicles. Autotaxin is an enzyme that generates messenger molecules that promote cell proliferation, migration and survival. In this project we will seek to understand the role that autotaxin and the vesicles play in the progression of cancer, and to investigate how the release of autotaxin and vesicles from tumour cells is regulated.
