Description This project demonstrated methods of generating and steering magnetic waves ('spin waves') in ferromagnetic nano- and micro-structures. Our method of spin wave generation could be tuned to inject different wavelengths of spin waves. This tunable spin wave source could be of use in future information hardware systems in order to allow encoding of data within the spin wave frequency. We also found that simple application of uniform magnetic fields (e.g. with an external electromagnet) could allow spin waves to be steered in particular directions at wire junctions. This could be a key tool in directing the propagation of data in future spin wave information technologies.
