Abstract

The project seeks to take the Athermal Laser research carried out at the University of Cambridge and develop further so that it is at a suitable point for commercial evaluation. The technical develop will involve optimized design, outsourced commercial device prototype fabrication and control hardware and software development. It is anticipated that commercial consultants will be employed to carry out market survey and targeted marketing activities in tandem with Cambridge Enterprise.
 
Description Project enabled athermal (ie uncontrolled temperature) operation of a tunable WDM laser for the first time. The laser was then demonstrated in a WDM-PON access system in collaboration with industrial partners Oclaro and Adva
Exploitation Route Athermal lasers could be useful in low cost WDM networks. The TUCAN project is looking at athermal WDM lasers in WDM-PON CPEs. A patent was filed. Has formed the basis of the athermal laser technology behind the TUCAN ERANET+ project - UK industrial partner Oclaro and German industrial partner Adva Networks.
