Abstract

This project comprises a set of people-based activities to support the principal investigator, Dr Nicolas Gold, in establishing a new programme of collaborative research to explore the application of software engineering methods to problems in the arts and humanities and facilitate rich interaction between the disciplines to drive future research in science and engineering.
 
Description This project provided the PI with opportunities to develop new collaborations with colleagues in the arts and digital humanities. It also allowed him to become familiar with disciplinary approaches and practices. It generated several new collaborations that continue beyond the life of the project, and enabled the PI to establish a new interdisciplinary research programme in music computing.
Exploitation Route The approaches developed in the project and documented in its publications are applicable to various types of musical performance studies and have been applied by other researchers in their work.

Description The methods were applied in the doctoral study of another researcher and the book chapter that resulted from the research was used as the discussion material for the Performance and Analysis Interest Group meeting of the US Society of Music Theory in 2011. The PI and collaborators were also invited to give talks on the methods at an e-Science workshop and as part of an Institute of Musical Research roadshow on Science and Technology in Musicology.
