Abstract

The vision of the Hub is to create ground-breaking embedded metrology and universal metrology informatics systems to be applied across the manufacturing value chain. This encompasses a paradigm shift in measurement technologies, embedded sensors/instrumentation and metrology solutions. A unified approach to creating new, scientifically-validated measurement technologies in manufacturing will lead to critical underpinning solutions to stimulate significant growth in the UK's productivity and facilitate future factories.

Global manufacturing is evolving through disruptive technologies towards a goal of autonomous production, with manufacturing value-chains increasingly digitised. Future factories must be faster, more responsive and closer to customers as manufacturing is driven towards mass customisation of lower-cost products on demand. Metrology is crucial in underpinning quality, productivity and efficiency gains under these new manufacturing paradigms.

The Advanced Metrology Hub brings together a multi-disciplinary team from Huddersfield with spokes at Loughborough, Bath and Sheffield universities, with fundamental support from NPL. Expertise in Engineering, Mathematics, Physics and Computer Science will address the grand challenges in advanced metrology and the Hub's vision through two key research themes and parallel platform activities:

Theme I - Embedded Metrology will build sound technological foundations by bridging four formidable gaps in process- and component-embedded metrology. This covers: physical limits on the depth of field; high dynamic range measurement; real-time dynamic data acquisition in optical sensor/instruments; and robust, adaptive, scalable models for real-time control systems using sensor networks with different physical properties under time-discontinuous conditions.

Theme II - Metrology Data analytics will create a smart knowledge system to unify metrology language, understanding, and usage between design, production and verification for geometrical products manufacturing; Establishment of data analytics systems to extract maximal information from measurement data going beyond state-of-the-art for optimisation of the manufacturing process to include system validation and product monitoring.

Platform research activities will underpin the Hub's vision and core research programmes, stimulate new areas of research and support the progression of fundamental and early-stage research towards deployment and impact activities over the Hub's lifetime.

In the early stage of the Hub, the core research programme will focus on four categories (Next generation of surface metrology; Metrology technologies and applications; In-process metrology and Machine-tool and large volume metrology) to meet UK industry's strategic agenda and facilitate their new products.

The resulting pervasive embedding and integration of manufacturing metrology by the Hub will have far reaching implications for UK manufacturing as maximum improvements in product quality, minimization of waste/rework, and minimum lead-times will ultimately deliver direct productivity benefits and improved competitiveness. These benefits will be achieved by significantly reducing (by 50% to 75%) verification cost across a wide swathe of manufacture sectors (e.g. aerospace, automotive, electronics, energy, medical devices, optics, precision engineering) where the current cost of verification is high (up to 20% of total costs) and where product quality and performance is critical.

Planned Impact

Academic community: Measurement science underpins all cyber-physical related research. Embedded sensor nets, metrology-driven control, metrology analytics, and semantic systems can all be applied to other academic fields, where metrology-driven autonomous systems can also be generated allowing efficiencies in design, cost and performance supporting researchers across a broad range of disciplines: applied mathematics and physics, computer science, automation, manufacturing technologies, Micro/Nano systems, clean energy generators, and aerospace technology. The development of new tools and techniques will be revolutionary for research communities to drive a paradigm shift in metrology driven solutions for new and emerging manufacturing processes (e.g. additive layer) and materials (e.g. graphene). Exemplar case studies will be provided to ensure that UK metrology research is world leading.

Industry sectors: The main transformation is to bring about a revolution needed to move from mass production: every component is the same and the metrology is used to ensure interchangeability - to almost exactly the opposite which is dynamic metrology in which every component is different and the metrology is used to ensure that the customer's individual requirements are satisfied. Application of technologies from the Hub will be across a range of industry sectors including: aerospace, automotive, bio-medical, electronics, energy generation, instruments & sensors, optics, and wider precision engineering. The improvements in design, manufacturing and verification capabilities will enable maximum improvements in manufacturing capability, quality and cost.

Policy makers and public corporations: The Hub will act as a national focal point for Advanced Metrology and be a "think tank" that can assimilate knowledge from the research and industrial communities and influence policy-makers through the national measurement strategy and manufacturing metrology standardisation. The Hub will continue to work closely with National Measurement Institutes (NPL, NIST, PTB) and organise road mapping exercises to ensure that future investments and priorities are aligned with industry needs.

Catapult Centres: The Hub has a strong exploitation route with a particularly direct pathway through close relationship with the High Value Manufacturing Catapult. The research from the Hub will directly influence the approach to metrology being adopted by these technology transfer centres, maximising impact within their own activities and those of their industrial membership. The research will also benefit the Digital Catapult.

Timescales
Short-term: By continuing the underlying research and exploring new approaches to this research, it is envisaged a new generation of metrology-driven technologies will be delivered quickly. Collaborating companies will quickly assimilate the novel technologies, techniques and processes, strengthened through industry research via sponsored PhDs/EngDs. Knowledge transfer activities, including metrology training, will also see significant industry benefits in skills development and metrology best practice.

Medium term: New technological demonstrators (hardware, software and systems) will facilitate the transition of research to business and ensure a path for commercialisation through patents, licensing agreements, and spin-out companies, delivering higher productivity and efficiency in UK manufacturing. For example, the universal metrology semantic system will be revolutionary for manufacturing industry, potentially applying across the whole value chain.

Long-term: The potential impact of the research for the economic competitiveness of the UK is substantial and will facilitate integrated, digitalised and autonomous manufacturing. The UK will see greater productivity and efficiency, an increase in GVA contributions and a much higher skilled sector as a direct result of the Hub: further developing UK manufacturing.

Description Besides the outcomes we reported in the Researchfish categories, we highlight three significant achievements as follows:

• Significant new knowledge generated; New or improved research methods or skills developed (Programme Objectives 5-6):

Our basic principle of research is to examine structure. For smart manufacturing these are highly dynamic structures. For this reason, a category-based approach is being developed to model the semantics of the smart manufacturing chain. Six basic category structures (product, coproduct, triangle, rectangle, pullback, and pushout) have been shown to be sufficient to build the model and are currently being validated by the Informatics Technology Laboratory (ITL) of NIST USA. The categorical approach naturally supports multi-level representation, achieved through defining: (1) static information structures that define static objects (nouns); (2) dynamic information flows (verbs) between the static structures that define relationships and transfer of information both horizontally (structures all at the same level) and vertically (structures at different simplified levels). A high-level Category Semantic Language (CSL) has been developed to build these dynamic semantic structures to model the manufacturing chain at the semantic level.

After classifying the different types and properties of sensor-nets it was found that sensor-nets also had a multi-level representation and so CSL can be used to model them, allowing analytics (filtration, characterisation etc.) to be defined. Dynamic calibration of sensor-nets uses prediction with feedback and machine-learning that dynamically updates internal parameters in the multi-level CSL model.

This work is critical enabling technology for the use of AI in future smart manufacturing systems.

• Significant new knowledge generated; and Important new research questions opened up (Programme Objective 1):

Objective 1 of this research programme is using 'non-diffracting' beams to overcome the small the depth of field (DOF) restricting measurement resolution and range. The research has shown the utilisation of axicon lenses to generate Bessel beams allows the illumination to be delivered more uniformly along the optical axis of a system and is an excellent way to measure defects in weakly scattering objects. Building upon modelling work based on scalar diffraction theory, lab-based OCT-based sensors/instruments have been investigated, built, and used to measure defects within additively manufactured elements. The results provide excellent evidence that an order of magnitude change in measurement range (from 100um to 3mm) can be achieved, detailed in a paper to be published in the CIRP Annuals: Manufacturing Technology this year (accepted). Meanwhile, other methods to use freeform and miniaturised bulk optics are on the way to provide short term solution.

While methods such as these offer good results in some cases, there is the further new serious research question: how to achieve more when measuring strongly scattering smooth surfaces. To approach this problem using newly emerging cutting-edge optical techniques we have recently forged a new collaboration with Southampton's nanophononics Group to together explore one of Top Ten 2019 Emerging technologies (defined by World Economic Forum July 2019): Metamaterials, and build the foundation for future optical metrology.

• New or improved research methods or skills developed (Programme Objective 3-4, 7-8):

Our approach for data analytics for manufacturing control has the intelligence of sensing, signal acquisition and processing at its heart. Our researchers have collaborated to produce the first iteration of a dedicated Edge Computing data acquisition and processing system for manufacturing machines, targeted at Availability, Performance, and Quality. This includes programmable logic to dictate the following: what to measure; where on the network (local to the data source, combined with other sources on part of a machine or at a higher level); and how often to process the data at the different levels within a node network. The focus is on information efficiency, without loss of fidelity.

Distinct from other approaches that have been reviewed, the principles of metrology are central throughout the network. Facilities have been provided to ensure traceability for: data streams (sensors and data transfer); biasing for uncertainty of measurement (sensors and measurement-specific); biasing for uncertainty of modelling and model robustness to changing factors; and auditing for anomaly interpretation.

Ongoing work into traceable Machine Learning, Deep Learning and Artificial Intelligence is now enabled by this solution and the results can be embedded into the system as this research matures. The main focus is towards data supporting traceable on-machine measurement and on informing offline data measurement strategies. The research is vital to allow efficient implementation of metrology-controlled manufacturing to improve productivity of high-quality parts.
Exploitation Route Developing the next generation of metrology sensors which enable large scale embedded metrology is core to the concept of Industry 4.0 and true automated manufacture. Additionally, traditional approaches to metrology practice are not adequate for current state of the art manufacturing techniques. New methods are needed to collect, analyse and interpret data to maximise its utility.

Description 2017-2018 The Hub was launched in September 2017 and was well attended by representatives from over 60 companies and over 25 universities. The event received coverage in local and regional newspapers and was heavily featured in the industrial press. After initial difficulties in recruiting research staff with the appropriate skill set the spoke institutions have now filled the required posts and started work on their respective work packages. In December the Hub launched its first call for feasibility studies in three distinct areas: photonic integration, automated metrology and metrology in challenging conditions. The call generated a great deal of interest and received twenty five applications from eighteen universities spread over the whole of the UK. Overall the majority of applications were of very high quality and we are currently reviewing the shortlisted projects with the aim of funding up to four. Following on from the success of the Centre for Innovative Manufacture in Advanced Metrology (CIMAM) the Hub maintains strong relationships with industry working with a wide range of companies such as Rolls-Royce, Jaguar Land Rover and Machine Tool Technologies Ltd. on a number of projects. The expertise of the Hub in the field of metrology techniques and applications is also well recognised. In addition to the regular work we carry out around manufacturing, staff from the Hub have acted as consultants on a variety of projects including legal work and software development. This year the hub has attracted approx. £1,600,000 in further funding for academic research and approx. £352,000 in further funding through industrial partnerships and consultancy. We are regularly approached to provide comment for magazine articles and features; over the last year these have mainly focussed on additive manufacture and industry 4.0. We have also provided a significant input into a series of white papers that were produced for FARO titled 'Inspection for the Smart Factory'. The Hub is currently exploring potential collaborations with other EPSRC Future Manufacturing Hubs such as MAPP in Sheffield, working on metrology for powder processing, and the Photonics Hub based out Southampton investigating metamaterial devices. We are also in the process of bidding for several high value projects which will capitalise on the relationships built through the Hub. These include a Centre for Doctoral Training, two EPSRC Programme grants and a Leverhulme Centre for Impact. 2018-2019 The Hub has had another successful year focussing on delivering our core research programme. We have continued to develop our links with industry by creating the Industrial Metrology Forum; an annual event open to any company with an interest in metrology techniques and practice. The aim of the IMF is to act as a forum to build and develop links between our academic community to look for areas of potential collaboration and to identify specific trends or needs within metrology technology. The first IMF was very well attended with delegates from over 25 companies taking part in workshops which covered topics such as metrology skills and training, translating research outputs into industry impact and novel metrology techniques. Feedback from the event was overwhelmingly positive with most attendees requesting that the format be extended to a full day event. In addition to this open forum the Hub has also created a second, smaller working group composed of our key strategic partners across a wide variety of industry sectors. To complement the IMF, which focusses on addressing the technological and operational challenges in industrial metrology, this group focusses on the longer term strategic direction of the Hub research to identify any emerging areas of interest and to ensure that the Hub continues to be the leading consortium of research institutions in the field. This approach of building strong links with industry focussing on industrially relevant research continues to prove effective both in maintaining our existing relationships and developing new partnerships; we are currently in the initial stages of developing projects with a number of companies including Tata Steel, Reliance Precision and the United States Air Force. The Hub is committed to the development of our research staff and this year we held our fist Early Career Researcher Symposium. This event is an opportunity for early career researchers from across the Hub consortium and partners to come together to share their work in a traditional conference format with keynotes, presentations and posters. In addition to the conference element, we identified specific development needs for early career researchers and provided training sessions on engaging with the REF 2021 exercise and the research funding environment and the bidding process. The event was organised by a team of researchers from across the consortium and also included time for socialising and network building. The experience gained in organising and attending this event will be of great benefit to the researcher involved as they progress through their academic careers. Continuing the theme of staff development; several Hub researchers have been successful in securing further funding. This has included two Researcher in Residence awards, two EPSRC Fellowship awards and a New Investigator award. The Hub has also secured two further PhD studentships sponsored by The Welding Institute. In total the Hub has secured over £2m in further funding this year in research council grants and awards and it has generated approximately £200K in industrial income or commercial activity. Following on from the Feasibility Call that was launched towards the end of the first year, four projects were funded which are as follows: The University of Bath: Immersive Metrology System The University of Sheffield: High-temperature, highly integrated, aerosol printed metrology sensors on-a-chip The University of Southampton: Compact Tailored Scattering Spectrometer The University of Strathclyde: Automating Process Optimisation from a Metrology Digital Twin The projects will investigate low TRL research to identify any potentially valuable areas for further investigation and could form the basis for future research projects. Over the coming year the Hub has many activities planned. We plan to undertake a pilot Innovation project which will be aimed at translating Hub research into industry impact by joint funding activities with an industry partner. This project is specifically targeted at raising the TRL of research and accelerating impact. This information gained through this pilot will be used to develop an open call (limited to Hub, Spoke and Research Feasibility call partners). In 2019 the Hub will also be hosting the 4th annual Dimensional X-Ray Computed Tomography (dXCT) conference in conjunction with NPL. 2019-2020 In addition to the core research programme, the Hub has had a busy year developing our network of connections within the academic and industrial communities. Training and skills development are an important part of the Hub's activities and surface metrology school continues to prove a popular course with 9 external institutions sending delegates to this year's course. Following very positive feedback we have begun preparations to split the course into two distinct 2-day modules; a user level module focused on meeting the needs of industrial operatives and an advanced module which is more relevant to researchers and senior technicians. Additionally, we have provided specialist X-ray CT training to NPL and we have also secured Erasmus funding to develop online and face to face training materials for precision engineering and nanotechnology in collaboration with the European Society for Precision Engineering and Nanotechnology (euspen) ECP2 programme. This year the Hub hosted the 4th annual International Dimensional X-ray Computed Tomography (DXCT) conference in partnership with NPL. The event was very well attended with over 80 delegates and 7 exhibitors. In response to the strong degree of interest the conference programme was extended to two days with an additional optional training day. Developments in DXCT are of great interest across many fields such as manufacturing, where it is a key enabling technology for additive manufacture, and bio-engineering. Work carried out by the mathematics for metrology research team has generated substantial interest internationally and the group has been invited to several meetings. On a visit to the Università di Padova the team discussed uncertainty of computed tomography (CT) devices for surface texture, while at Politecnico di Milano the team were invited to speak about in-line detection of anomalies for additive manufacturing. One of the Hub's core research topics, Category Semantic Language (CSL), was discussed at great length at the National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST) with the outcome that there will be a joint application for joint funding to use CSL for systems engineering applications. For this year's Industrial Metrology Forum (IMF), the Hub worked with the High Value Manufacturing Catapult centres to build on the metrology roadmap that they are developing. The event was well attended with more than 25 companies and institutions represented in a full day event held at the Knowledge Transfer Centre at the AMRC. The event focussed on taking the existing metrology roadmap developed by the HMVC centres and asking industrialists to identify and prioritise the key elements. Topics for discussion included: In-process Metrology, Digital Metrology, Metrology for Composites and Metrology for Additive Manufacture. Following on from the IMF, the Hub held a full day roadmapping event, held on the campus of our spoke partner Loughborough University, to develop a plan for the academic community and to identify future research priorities. In addition to the Hub and Spoke co-investigators and research fellows, delegates were drawn from across the U.K. academic community and invitees were chosen to represent key metrology research institutions, HVMC centres, other Future Manufacturing Research Hubs and research centres with unique metrology challenges. In total approximately 60 delegates attended, and the event was facilitated by the Institute for Manufacturing. In addition to helping shape our future research programme, a white paper will be produced which documents the research priorities identified and the proposed roadmap. The Hub collaborated with 3 other Future Manufacturing Research Hubs (Composites, Compound Semiconductors, Photonics) in creating and releasing a Joint Feasibility Call. Common applications processes and review criteria were developed and opportunities for applicants to work with multiple Hubs were available. The call received a strong response with 63 applications in total across the whole consortium, of which 20 were interdisciplinary projects. 5 projects were funded by the Metrology Hub with 3 being carried out in collaboration with the Future Composites Manufacturing Research Hub. 2020-2021 The past year has presented a number of challenges to the Hub programme, with the Covid pandemic and subsequent lockdowns significantly hampering progress on several work packages. However, as covid secure operating processes have been developed, and staff have been able to return to labs to work, research has largely been able to resume and work packages are steadily recovering from the initial delays. Similar challenges have been faced by our funded feasibility projects and in order to support them under such difficult working conditions, all were offered unfunded extensions and flexibility on start and end dates. These accommodations were gratefully received and all projects are currently nearing completion. In particular, the projects led by Dr Yazdani-Nezhad at City University London and Dr Connie Qian at the University of Warwick have shown significant promise in the development of new measurement techniques for composites manufacture. Despite the challenging circumstances, several noteworthy achievements have been made over the past year. Professor Keogh and team at the University of Bath have demonstrated a metrology enabled precision machining system based around the use of a serial robotic arm. These are generally not suitable for precision machining due to the lack of stiffness when compared to conventional systems. However, by using a combination of laser tracking and accelerometers, the team has managed to map and compensate for motion errors to within 10 microns while also eliminating machine tool chatter, ultimately reducing machining errors by 90%. One of the Hub's leading researchers, Dr Muhamedsalih, recently spun out a new company, Cubit Precision Measurement Ltd, to deliver in-process metrology solutions to industry. Cubit is the Hub's first spin out company and capitalises on the teams expertise in the fields of interferometry and optical metrology systems. Professor Scott, leader of the Mathematics for Metrology team, has long standing relationships with both ISO and French company Digital Surf. The teams recent research into freeform surfaces using triangular meshing will now be incorporated into Digital Surf's MountainsMap software. Profs Scott and Jiang have also published this work in the first of a book series on advanced metrology. Based on the findings of the previous year's roadmapping event, the Hub published its UK Metrology Research Roadmapping report which several key findings and made recommendations for academics, industrialists and policymakers. A follow up piece of work is currently under way to understand the reach and impact of this work. Preliminary results show that the piece has been well received. 2021-2022 After successful completion of the Hub's Mid-Term Review, the Hub intended to resume its programme of externally focussed events. However, the continued uncertainty caused by the Covid-19 pandemic meant that this wasn't viable. Despite these challenges, there were several notable achievements over the course of the year. In addition to the core work packages, the Hub has used its flexible funding budget to create two new additional work packages in areas of strategic importance which were closely aligned to the core Hub themes. The first work package, titled "Increasing the Capability of Robotic Milling Systems", is led by Dr Erdem Ozturk at AMRC and the second, titled "Novel Techniques to Improve Vibration Distortion Measurements" is led by Prof Nigel Copner at the University of South Wales. Following the success of the first joint call for Feasibility Studies, the Hub partnered with the Composites, Photonics and Electrical Machines Hub's to release a second call. This call generated significant interest with 45 applications (14 interdisciplinary). The Metrology Hub funded five projects in the fields of the human-metrology interface, future inspection in manufacturing, and improving performance through metrology. Building on the research outcomes from the early stages of the Hub, Prof Andrew Longstaff, leader of the Hub's research into metrology enabled manufacturing systems, leads the Hub component of a major £22.6 million project titled "the Advanced Machinery and Productivity Institute (AMPI)" which brings together a consortium of industrial and academic partners in the North of England. AMPI aims to significantly accelerate the development of new next generation manufacturing machinery, creating new jobs and growing exports in the process. The Centre for Precision Technologies was awarded a Queens Anniversary Prize to recognise the groups ground-breaking work in the field of advanced measurement in smart manufacturing. 2022-23 This year the Hub has been working hard to substantially increase our engagement events and regain some of the ground lost over the covid pandemic. In April the Hub ran an exhibition stand for 4 of the Future Manufacturing Hubs (Composites, Electrical Machines, Powder Process, and Metrology) at the international MACH22 trade show. The event took place over a full week with several thousand attendees. As part of the exhibit, the Hub's first spin out company, Cubit, had two machines on display and was able to promote their work to a large number of relevant industrialists. In July the Hub hosted the 23rd international Met & Props conference in collaboration with the University of Strathclyde. The conference was chaired by Prof Liam Blunt with Prof Dame Jane Jiang providing a keynote address. Several Hub researchers presented their work. The Hub ran our Early Career Researcher Symposium at Loughborough University with researchers and students from across the consortium and wider network present to present their work and take part in skills development workshops. This event was particularly important as it was the first opportunity to bring together the whole consortium in person since the pandemic. Further skills development took pace at the Surface Metrology School, with Hub students and researchers once again undertaking this foundational training course in metrology science.

Phase2a: Data required to demonstrate effect of a low-pass-filter i.e. fig5a and fig5b. Target fixed at arbitrary point within meas. volume and all eight bit configurations scanned manually. Choose data length = 8364 and start index 95000. Phase2b: Calibration data for frequency to distance conversion i.e. fig6a. ADL fixed at 001 bit configuration and Renishaw XL80 running synchronously with target loc1 corresponding to 825 mm away from BSR and then moved in steps of 100 mm. Phase3: Data required to demonstrate absolute distance measurement relative to a datum with proposed FSI/ADL setup and compare performance with the Renishaw XL-80 i.e. fig6b (not the red line). Target moved at eight different positions with a step of ~100mm while Renishaw XL-80 records. The datum (BSR) was set at ~845mm. At each position the three closest to the corresponding zero-OPD surface bit configurations were recorded and their corresponding frequencies estimated using the non-integer peak detection algorithm. Renishaw_XL80: contains data for calibration stage ( Phase2b) and performance comparison ( Phase3) required for fig6a and fig6b.

Title Method of and apparatus for additive layer manufacture 
Description A method and apparatus for additive layer manufacture, e.g. with an electron beam, wherein to monitor layer quality, structured light defining a fringe pattern is projected onto each deposited layer before S2 and/or after S10 melting of material in that layer. The fringe pattern on each layer is imaged S3, S11 from a perspective different from that of the projection so as to reveal disturbance of the pattern by topographical features of the layer (Fig 1b) and recognize defects in the layer before melting S4, S5, S7 or in a cross-sectional layer of the article formed after melting S12, S13, S15. If defects are detected layer deposition is correctively influenced, e.g. by vibrating or otherwise smoothing the layer S6, S8 or by introducing energy, e.g. by separate optics, e.g. to partially melt the cross-sectional layer. Further material may be added, removed, or replaced. A fringe pattern algorithm, e.g. phase stepping procedures, FFA, DPD, or wavelet transform fringe analysis may be used to demodulate fringe patterns with subsequent unwrapping algorithms used.

Impact The patent is now licensed to Wayland Additive and was one of the two core patents which facilitated the spin-off of Wayland from Reliance precision. Results and Impact Dr Young wrote an article entitled Better Measurements lead to greater sustainability. The article shows that embedding metrology throughout the manufacturing environment leads to efficient energy use and optimisation of designs and processes. The purpose of the article was to show how subtle changes and a new approach to measurement can shift metrology from a source of cost generation to a net reduction both financially and environmentally.

A presentation was given "A Smart Semantic Language for Digital Manufacturing" to the researchers, postgraduate and undergraduate students. Results and Impact Visit to NIST at Gaithersburg, MD, USA of Xiang Jiang and Qunfen Qi from 30 October 2019 to 3rd November 2019, which ad been planned during the last visit of NIST members to the University of Huddersfield. Visits were made to the Information Technology Lab, Additive Manufacturing Metrology testbed at the Intelligent Systems division, AM data science group at the System Integration Division, and the Surface Metrology Lab at the Sensor Science Division. At each visit, detailed discussions were held on common research interests with questions. One meeting was arranged with the AM data science group to discuss how category theory can be used for AM data/information representation and integration. Most importantly, a sequence of meetings have been carried out with Prof E Subrahmanian, Dr S Breiner and Dr B Pollard. The focus includes 1. Discusson of the collaborative paper on "category theory for metrology"; 2. An industrial meeting with CEO AND Dr Ryan Wisnesky from Conexus to discuss potential collaboration with Conexus and possible industrial cases; 3. A Detailed collaboration plan was finalised. We then arranged regular video meeting every fortnight.

Results and Impact Following an expression of interest from Professor Marcello Urgo of the Polytechnic University of Milan, a video meeting was organised with him and Dr Walter Terkaj on15 October 2019 to discuss a collaborative work on ontology for manufacturing. During the meeting it was decided to define a collaboration area in the field of the use of tracking/versioning approaches for the modelling of elements in a factory and the use of multi-level/multi-scale approaches in the modelling of manufacturing systems. We then shared our data and later further extended our current focus to "a coherent synchronisation of data model in manufacturing using delta lenses".
