Abstract

Abstracts are not currently available in GtR for all funded research. This is normally because the abstract was not required at the time of proposal submission, but may be because it included sensitive information such as personal details.

Description The experimental effort has revealed that increased sensitivity to optical phase from frequency (two-color) entangled light can be used to reveal phase contracts information in a raster-scanned imaging system with extremely low level illumination of the imaged object. Experimental methods were developed in order to enable this phenomena to be observed routinely, overcoming otherwise inherent instabilities and environmental sensitivities in the setup. This provides a new application of frequency tunable photon pair sources in enhanced phase contrast microscopy.
Exploitation Route Possible future directions include further engineering of the setup, and development of systems integration to make the system more user friendly. Diversifying wavelength ranges the source operates in would expand the types of samples the technique can image and sense.
