Abstract
PROPOSED SECONDMENT ACTIVITIES
Activities and justification:
- Provide expertise in industrial organization and macroeconomics to aid the BEIS Industrial Strategy Council research team.
- Develop academic research towards a policy audience, resulting in a research paper with the BEIS Industrial Strategy Council research team.
- Analyse UK business microdata to inform decision making from a quantitative perspective.
- Use data/econometric/statistical analysis to aid evidence-based policy.
- Disseminate research findings among policy user-groups; academic researchers; and other organizations.
- Attend team meetings, where appropriate, to present and discuss research findings or progress.
Further justification:
- The activities above contribute towards the Industrial Strategy white paper theme "Business Environment".
- The activities will improve the delivery of the industrial strategy by addressing supply-side economic factors.
Approximate timetable:
- 1-6 months data access, cleaning and analysis.
- 6-12 months write-up, incorporate feedback, and disseminate via meetings and presentations.
KEY DELIVERABLES
1. Policy report
- Timetable: Final paper to be published at project close. Working drafts to be circulated among BEIS team as appropriate.
- Justification: Main output of the project to help guide the industrial strategy on their deliverable to address UK business environment.
2. Blog post
- Timetable: To be released in conjunction with final publication.
- Justification: Provide a lay overview of the main outcomes of the more technical full publication.
3. Presentation (if appropriate)
- Timetable: To be delivered at project end to BEIS team.
- Justification: To summarise findings and guide policy recommendations.
