| Title | The impact of universities on the UK economy (part one) |
| Description | As the current challenge for the UK economy continues, the key role of higher education institutions and their impact on expenditure and employment in the national economy is particularly relevant. Universities UK has published a major report which explores the considerable impact which universities have on the UK economy. The launch took place in the Terrace Pavilion, House of Commons on 3 November 2009, hosted by Dr Vince Cable MP, Liberal Democrat Deputy Leader and Shadow Chancellor. The event was introduced by Professor Steve Smith, President of Universities UK and Vice-Chancellor of the University of Exeter. Two authors of the report, Emeritus Professor Ian McNicholl and Ursula Kelly from the University of Strathclyde provided a briefing on the report and Susan Anderson, Director of Public Services and Skills at the CBI provided a business perspective. This video shows the first half of Ursula Kelly's presentation at the launch. |
