Results and Impact This symposium brought together academics, public health professionals and policy makers to discuss emerging research and interventions in this area. Speakers included academics (Prof. Nanette Mutrie, University of Edinburgh 'The Iconnect project: evaluating natural experiments of improved walking and cycling infrastructure' and Prof. Andy Jones, University of East Anglia and CEDAR 'Staying close to home - how important are environments around home for physical activity?') and policy related groups (Sharon Allison, Physical Activity and Health Alliance Coordinator, NHS Health Scotland 'Physical activity and the environment: a policy update' and Ian Findlay, Chief Officer, Paths for all 'A walkers perspective of the environment'. These talks were followed by a group discussion to consider the future for work in this area. The event was oversubscribed with 40 attendees and a waiting list of 22. Audience members were both from academia (23) and external organistions (17 including NHS Lothian, The Scottish Collaboration for Public Health Research, Edinburgh Leisure and Sustrans).
