Description Outputs from the network project are: 1) Review paper on 'India, Globalisation and Healthcare', by Drs Bisht, Murray and Pitchforth, which identifies seven broad thematic areas of study, highlights a young and expanding literature, and a clear need for greater social science contributions in this field that go beyond commentaries and descriptive overviews. 2) An independently peer-reviewed Social Sciences Special Issue of the open access journal 'Globalization and Health', entitled 'Health systems, health economies and globalisation: social science perspectives'.
Exploitation Route Much of the material in the review and specialist papers is relevant to health policy, and well as to the general societal understanding of current developments in healthcare and health policy. The special issue series of papers give an overview and specific detailed insights into key issues concerning contemporary globalization and health, written from a range of social science perspectives.

Results and Impact This, the first of two symposiums, brings together a mix of UK, Indian and other social scientists, and users of social science. Provisional themes: Globalisation and India's changing healthcare landscapes; Globalisation and the governance of new technologies; Understanding influences on access to medicines in a globalised market; Problematising global health policy; Transnational healthcare markets & providers; Transnational healthcare markets & users.

The best papers were developed into a peer reviewed journal special issue.
New research collaborations developed through the discussions held.

Results and Impact This was the second of two symposiums. The first held in London, the second in New Delhi

Stimulated interest in social science research methods among post graduate students at Centre for Social Medicine JNU, also request from this PGR group for training in web based bibliographic software. This training was carried out via a Kings College London / JNU partnership award arrangement the following year.
