Modelling the relationships between transport poverty and social disadvantage

Abstract

Abstracts are not currently available in GtR for all funded research. This is normally because the abstract was not required at the time of proposal submission, but may be because it included sensitive information such as personal details.

Description The research looked at different ways to mathematically model the relationship between transport poverty and social disadvantages. It found that the standard models and datasets traditionally used by transport policymakers could readily be adapted to identify these influence of a lack of transport on people's trip making patterns. This could be found at the national and local level of analysis. However, when people on low incomes live in close proximity to good public transport services and a range of different economic and social opportunities, they appear to adopt the same trip making patterns as their counterparts in the average population.
