Abstract

Technical Summary
The Industrial Challenge Strategy Fund supplement is designed to bring diverse and flexible pump-priming activities to the Network with additional industrial involvement. This award will provide a support linkage, increasing UK Vaccine R&D activity around ‘proof of concept’ studies and can be used to support academic-industry partnerships and enhance academic and industry researchers' understanding of each other's needs and capabilities. This may be through people exchanges, creation of tecnology demonstrators, showcase events, workshops and pump-priming of grant activities.

| Results and Impact | The MatImms project consists of a multi-disciplinary research team of midwives, doctors and scientists that investigates vaccination in pregnancy. The project is led by Prof. Beate Kampmann. MatImms encourages vaccination in pregnancy to protect newborn babies from preventable infections. In the laboratory, MatImms studies the impact of vaccines on immunity in mothers and babies. In order to connect with pregnant women, the MatImms Smartphone App has been developed to improve vaccine information available, enabling pregnant women and their support networks to make informed choices. Our challenge 1 co-lead Beth Holder co-developed the App and its contents. IMPRINT is mentioned on the blog news. |

In addition, Dr Chrissie Jones was also available at the "Meet the Professor" Session and present "a randomized controlled trial comparing two pertussis-containing vaccines in pregnancy and vaccine responses in UK mothers and their infants (Immunizing Mums Against Pertussis, IMAP2). |

| Results and Impact | We held our first full network meeting in Sept 2018 in Kingston upon Thames with a total of 87 participants. At that time, the network was running for 14 months and had a total of 200 members. Travel funds for young scientists, postdocs as well as grant holders were provided. 30% of the participants came from LMIC, 70% from HIC and from a total of 22 different countries. During the meeting, we not only had scientific talks by our pump priming and fellowship holders on their IMPRINT sponsored projects, but also from our GCRF sister network PIs and stakeholders from policy (Ghana Standards Authority and WHO), as well as the Group Strep B support group.. We also had an industry panel discussion with representatives from Pfizer, GSK and Sanofi Pasteur. We offered workshops on the topic of Patient and Public Involvement and grant writing as media training. A speed dating session for networking fostered the interaction between the participants. Additionally, we supported the career of our IMPRINT sponsored fellows by recording video interviews about their research and career which we will display at the IMPRINT website and provide to the fellows. We also recorded videos and interviews with our network members on our passion for research, our network of members, our innovational approach and impact. All videos can be seen on our website. |

| Results and Impact | On 17 September 2019, IMPRINT held a session and network meeting in conjunction with the 5th International Maternal and Neonatal Immunisation symposium (INMIS) in Vancouver, Canada. INMIS takes place bi-annually and is the world leading conference in the field of maternal and neonatal immunisation and as such the most important conference for IMPRINT to reach our main target audience, namely researchers, industry partners, funders and other stakeholders in our field. IMPRINT was one of the sponsors for INMIS contributing travel funds for IMPRINT members and the IMPRINT Steering Group. The session took place directly after INMIS and was advertised to all INMIS attendees as well as the whole IMPRINT network. In total, the session was attended by over 70 people. The session consisted of presentations by all IMPRINT funded Pump Priming projects and IMPRINT Fellows, as well a select presentations by one of our newly funded Public Engagement projects. In addition to the research and engagement projects, The Vaccine Confidence Project presented on its measures to monitore vaccine confidence across media & social media, utilizing machine learning, digital analytics and confidence mapping. The project is co-funded by IMPRINT. Impact: The session offered excellent networking opportunity for all IMPRINT awardees to form future research collaborations. Both industry representatives (e. g from GSK) and representatives from the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation attended the meeting fostering dialogue about potential collaborations on network level as well as sustainability for the IMPRINT network. In addition, the session led to a spike in membership applications. Due to our presence at INMIS, approx. 20 new members joined the network. |

| Results and Impact | IMPRINT was promoted at the first London Maternity & Midwifery Festival that took place on February 13th 2018 with over 1600 participants. This national professional festival, with leadership speakers and exhibitions, is to be held annually to highlight developments in maternity and midwifery across the South East of the United Kingdom. Our IMPRINT network member Beth Holder and a team from London School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine attended the event to promote MatImms, a free Smartphone App designed by leading experts of paediatric infectious diseases at London School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine that aims to improve vaccine information available to pregnant women, enabling them to make informed choices and encourages vaccination in pregnancy to protect newborn babies from preventable infections. MatImms collaborate with pregnant women alongside academic, clinical and policy partners such as Public Health England and antenatal services, in the UK and globally through the Centre for International Child Health. Matimms is led by Professor Beate Kampmann. We aimed to attract midwifes to our network and spark interest of the general public. |
