Technical Summary

The Confidence in Concept (CIC) scheme is a key part of MRC’s translational research strategy and provides annual awards to institutions to flexibly support a portfolio of early stage translational research projects. CIC is designed to accelerate the transition from discovery research to viable translational projects by supporting preliminary studies to establish proof-of-concept so that the approach will then become competitive for more substantial translational funding.

Description The company was formed to take the Dental concepts developed in Durham forward. This project helped support the development of a practical desk top system. The company is currently trying to raise funds to take the concept into a clinical assessment phase prior to searching for further funding to develop a full clinical instrument for sale.

Impact We have been awarded local development agency funds to help take the concept onto the next stage. It has also been decided that the company will be based in the NorthEast to be near to the technical expertise.
