Social Science Programme / Development of the Social Gerontology Manual-Extension

Lead Research Organisation: MRC/UVRI Uganda Research Unit on AIDS

Abstract

The purpose of this project was to produce a Social Gerontology Manual for district health and community service providers and managers in Uganda. It aims to strengthen the capacity of government workers, NGO representatives and communities in terms of knowledge, attitudes and practices when working with and for older people (defined as 60 years and above).

Ultimately this training manual contributes to a model of care in which older people enjoy universal and equitable access to good quality care and support (including the health, social and economic dimensions), allowing them to remain active productive members of their communities and families.
