Director of population health improvement network of clusters

Lead Research Organisation: University of Cambridge
Department Name: MRC Epidemiology Unit

Abstract

The UKRI Population Health Network is funded as part of one of the UKRI strategic research themes aimed at improving health and wellbeing.

It will be formed of four research clusters across the United Kingdom that are studying how to improve public health and reduce unfair differences in health between sub-groups in the population by tackling the determinants of health that affect all people in the population.

This funding request is to establish the organisational hub in Cambridge to co-ordinate the Network as a whole.

The funding will also support Collaboration and Innovation Fund (CIF) to ensure the Network operates as a whole and to connect it with other initiatives.

Technical Summary

The UKRI Population Health Network is funded as part of the UKRI securing better health, ageing and wellbeing strategic theme.

It will be formed of a series of research clusters that address a specific challenge to progress systems interventions in communities. As a whole, the Network will act as a national grouping seeking to transform health and reduce health inequalities through change at the population level across the UK.

This funding request is to establish the organisational hub in Cambridge, comprising the Director, a Senior Network Manager, a Communications Manager and an Administrative Assistant.

The funding also includes funding for a Collaboration and Innovation Fund (CIF) which the Director will use, with oversight from an UKRI PHI governance group, to support cross-cluster working, fund pilot work and to enhance training opportunities. It will also support activities including systems approaches in Population Health Improvement, building on the clusters but filling gaps in the portfolio for important determinants of health. It will also fund work to connect the PHI network to other funded initiatives.
