Abstract
The Climate+ Co-Centre will be the home of research, innovation, and policy development across the
interlinked challenges of climate change, biodiversity loss, and water degradation on the islands of
Ireland and Britain. Given global failure to achieve greenhouse gas (GHG) emission reductions, stem
the decline of biodiversity and reverse water quality deterioration, business as usual is not an option;
transformations in how we produce food, store carbon, manage risks and exploit new opportunities
are all urgently needed.
Climate+ will provide integrated research across both islands to address the climate, biodiversity and
water crises; undertaking oriented basic research to enable fair transformations to Net Zero, reverse
biodiversity loss, restore water quality and ensure resilience for communities and a sustainable
economy. Climate+ comprises a trans-disciplinary, world-class research team who will work closely
together to identify and analyse the major threats to our environment, explore and test new solutions,
innovate, and provide policy guidelines to enable fair transformations. Through an integrated system
of fundamental research platforms, industry-linked spokes, and cross-cutting activities the Climate+
Co-Centre will lead the industry and policy response to the most important threats to a sustainable
economy and society.

It collates river flows, river levels, groundwater levels, precipitation, potential evapotranspiration and temperature time series at monthly to hourly timescales. Daily hydro-meteorological timeseries are provided from 1st October 1970 - 30th September 2022, hourly hydro-meteorological timeseries are provided from 1st October 1990 09:00 to 1st October 2022 08:00, and groundwater level timeseries cover a range of time periods (ranging from 7 to 72 years with the earliest records beginning in the 1950s). A comprehensive set of catchment attributes are quantified describing a range of catchment characteristics including topography, climate, hydrology, land cover, soils, hydrogeology, hydrometry and human influences. |

| Description | This dataset provides a coherent, quality-controlled collection of 15-minute river flow observations from across the United Kingdom. It brings together more than 1,300 gauging stations and over 50,000 station-years of data collected by the main UK measuring authorities - the Environment Agency (England), Scottish Environment Protection Agency, Natural Resources Wales, the Department for Infrastructure (Northern Ireland), and the UK Centre for Ecology & Hydrology. The records span from 1948 to the present day and represent the first national-scale compilation of sub-daily flow data in a consistent format. The dataset was created by assembling raw hydrometric records from open APIs and data requests to measuring authorities, then standardising them to a uniform 15-minute time step. A structured quality control framework was applied to identify and flag potential issues such as missing or duplicated values, irregular time steps, and implausible flow events. Each record includes a detailed quality code indicating the outcome of these checks, and a suite of accompanying metadata files provides full traceability of data provenance, quality control results, and any adjustments made during processing. The resource is designed to support large-sample and national-scale hydrological research, particularly for applications requiring high-resolution data such as flood analysis, catchment response studies, and model calibration. |
