Mission preparation in support of the upcoming OCO and GOSAT data.

Lead Research Organisation: University of Leicester
Department Name: Chemistry

Abstract

The work to be undertaken by the University of Leicester EOS group as part of the C-cycle theme is detailed in section 3.10 of the NCEO original proposal. The work will be based on the experience in CO2 retrievals from SCIAMACHY and our involvement in the OCO retrieval development. The team at the Univ. Leicester will play a leading in the analysis, characterization, validation and interpretation of OCO and GOSAT data and thus provide critical information to the data assimilation groups.

Description GOSAT allows observing the global carbon cycle from space with precision around 0.5% and bias much less than 1%.

GOSAT is well suited to test calculations from global transport models and to diagnose their deficiencies, eg for strong methane source areas

GOSAT data can improve the source/sink estimates using data assimilation methods
Exploitation Route Carbon Acounting Colloboration with Defra on GHG platforms and inventories
