Description	Collaborative exhibit in the YAKU Museum of Water, about the rivers in changing scales from South America to a neighbourhood of Quito, including the topography, the volcanoes, highlands rich in water, and seismic faults, the history of urban development of Quito in relation to these rivers and ravines, and the experience of community recovery of one of these spaces. The exhibit was in place from August to November 2022, with 13236 visitors. It was a collaborative exhibit with community engagement in a neighbourhood that recovered one ravine as a public park, artists and architects, and Conservation NGOs as well as the museum itself.

Description	Exhibit that explores the history of the development of Quito, since precolonial times, and the traces of knowledge about disaster risk in the geography of Quito, its legends and history. The livelihoods that the relationship with the geology and climate allowed (building materials, rich soils for agriculture, water management for agriculture but also to avoid floods, etc). The role of naturalists in getting to know volcanoes and earthquakes and the relationship between the expansion of the city, and risk building and resilience.

Description	This exhibit was co-produced with participants of the Gender, intersectionality and risk workshops financed by GRRIPP network. The exhibit presented the process of the workshops in a video, a timeline of disaster events and major urban developments with the experiences of the participants, a map of the city and where they lived and how they saw themselves and their homes, objects of care and their neghbourhoods drawn and painted by them identifying the vulnerable neighbours, the hazards, and their community spaces. It was open for the month of September 2022, and was also the host to guided visits of people from different neighbourhoods, and municipal personel.

Impact	551 people visited the exhibit, many of those visitors came from peripherical neighbourhoods of Quito from people with socio-economic vulnerabilities. 18 people attended the workshops on gender, intersectionality and risk and co-produced the exhibit. They attended also a capacity building workshop on human rights and disaster risk. Architects and urban planners, and municipality staff were also sensibilized to the needs and expectations from women, and men from different age groups, race, ethnic identity, migrant status and socio-economic status related on how they live the city and disaster risk. The Municipality attended and listened to the participants, and approached the Tomorrow's Cities team saying that they would like for them to use these participatory methodologies in places where they are developing urban plans that consider risk.

Title	Reducing Risks in Quito
Description	The digital platform reflects the interdisciplinary and co-productive work of the Quito team. It was developed with the objective of raising awareness about the relationship between urban development and disaster risk for new generations, with the aim of becoming an important communication tool to inform risk prevention. It was put together through a series of workshops with two pilot schools in Quito so it is tailored for teenagers through multimedia content including podcasts, interactive timelines and maps. It is designed to be used in the classroom to use examples from disaster risk to teach within different subject areas (Science, Literature, Physics, Social sciences/humanities). In this way, the platform combines the knowledge generated through the synergy established between different researchers from the Tomorrow's Cities, coming from different areas of expertise (historians, geologists, civil engineers, visual anthropologists, pedagogists, artists and web designers) and school children and teachers. It draws from historical testimonies, maps, satellite images and past photographs, as well as event datasets, to imagine future scenarios and the impact of urban planning decision on future risk. The interactive dimension of the platform incorporates exercises and surveys to reflect on how risk knowledge can be included in decision making processes.

Description	This video was created to show people how to conduct a technical closure of a septic tanks. It was not possible to invite all the community for the technical assistance meeting because of COVID and people´s working schedule, therefore the video to have a long-time available material. Title	¿Qué Onda con Quito? Paisajes Profundos del Riesgo
Description	Co-produced exhibit with museum staff that focussed on scientific explanation of the subsoil of Quito, its seismic fault, volcanoes, and filled ravines, as well as the characteristics of soils in Quito in relationship to seismic exposure and building safely. We used artistic interactive displays and played with the concept of scales and what can be "seen"/explained with the glasses of science. We included a video with images of the expansion of the city and risk using satellite images, that was in conversation with the big scaled city of Quito that is in this museum of science. We included activities around this subject in the summercamp offered by the museum where our researchers participated.

Description	The Hub was funded to address the intractable challenge of reducing disaster risk in tomorrow's cities. Globally, more than two billion people living in DAC cities are exposed to multiple natural hazards, which threaten the destruction of their lives and livelihoods. In the early phase of the Hub, our learning was mainly around how to plan and set up equitable, interdisciplinary, challenge driven research. The approach taken was different across the cities; we were aiming to support equitable decision-making and also interested in experimenting with approaches and assessing which would produce the most effective outcome. A review of our effectiveness led us to conclude that our learning and effort was best consolidated into the development of a modular process for urban planning that reduces disaster risk and that can be deployed in any context, the TCDSE. The Hub has developed the Tomorrow's Cities Decision Support Environment (TCDSE), which aims to transition cities from crisis management to multi-hazard risk-informed, inclusive and people-centric risk-informed planning. The Hub appreciates that the TCDSE represents a significant step beyond current practice, particularly in its focus on risk in as yet unbuilt communities; its prioritization of community involvement in planning and risk definition and the inclusion of perspectives of marginalized groups, directly or indirectly, in decision making. A needs assessment, canvasing the views of international experts and city and community representatives who have expressed interest in the TCDSE, has underlined this need. The TCDSE design process has been informed by engagements with stakeholders and partners on matters of immediate concern and in response to existing gaps. The value of the TCDSE lies in being able to engage with complexity, while being grounded in empirical validity. This section summarises outcomes emerging from those engagements and includes additional information about how the Hub is proceeding with its legacy phase since October 2023 (years 4-5). 1. Societal and Economic Impact • In Nairobi, 2.5 million people live in informal settlements ('slums') such as Mukuru and Kibera, where fire and floods pose a daily threat to residents. After our involvement in amending the NCCG's Standard Operating Procedures and training 60 personnel in DRR, the Hub has been invited to co-lead the national Building Climate Resilience for the Urban Poor (BCRUP) Programme of the Ministry of Transport, Infrastructure, Housing, Urban Development, and Public Works. • In Kathmandu, a capital with a steadily increasing population, that is susceptible to strong earthquakes, severe flooding and frequent landslides, the Ministry of Federal Affairs and General Administration (MoFAGA) invited Tomorrow's Cities to develop a training program on risk informed decision making to be included in a package for all 753 newly elected mayors following the 2022 elections. • The Physical Infrastructure impact module working group has developed a generic methodology for selecting appropriate physical impact models in any city. Fragility functions for the bridges within the Kathmandu Valley will be used to develop fragility functions of bridges in Rapti Valley. • In Istanbul, our collaboration with Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality and Büyükçekmece District Municipality (BM) allows for community contributions to Istanbul's Vision 2050 development strategy:" [] the visioning meetings and co-mapping activities with the community gave them a chance to better understand the country's urban planning framework and how to translate their resilient urbanization aspirations into urban planning. The community, especially the poor, appreciated that we could make their voices heard in the administration. Secondly, after sharing the community aspirations with the policy-makers and involving them in the co-mapping exercise, the policy-makers had an idea of the benefits of participatory planning. They understood that our approach may also be beneficial for the legitimacy of their future urban plans." • In Quito our Urban Risk Laboratory has brought together city officials and practitioners to apply the TCDSE in the urban development of Santa Rosa de Pomasqui. The responsiveness and value of the Lab was demonstrated when fulfilling requests by the Mayor's Office in response to a fatal landslide: "in Quito, our work on modelling a recent landslide has contributed to the influence of the Quito city team with community residents and to the residents' knowledge of landslide causes and landslide-resilient construction/ hillside development practices". • The Quito team has also led a programme of activities on public engagement in local museums and school education platforms. The objective is to demonstrate they can be used to inform and recruit lay public into disaster risk awareness and mitigation. Yaku Water Museum has responded favourably to our exhibits and have requested ongoing partnership. 13 different schools are currently using our learning tools. • The global reach of Tomorrow's Cities brings LMIC research and policy partners to the foreground in international processes. • Targeted science-policy events have brought policy makers, practitioners and researchers into conversation to demonstrate the Tomorrow's Cities approach and catalyse global momentum for risk-informed urban planning. These target mainstream agendas: disaster risk reduction through the UNDRR Global Platform 2021, Understanding Risk Global Forum 2022 and the European Geophysical Union 2022; urban planning through the UCLG 7th World Congress and Summit of Local and Regional Leaders, and climate change adaptation through Adaptation Futures '22. • Individual influence has been achieved through Tomorrow's Cities members bridging into global science-policy processes on climate change, urbanisation and risk, including: o The UNFCCC, through the UNFCCC Global Stocktake Technical Dialogue, Equity Working Group of the Independent Global Stocktake and an OECD Building Systemic Climate Resilience in Cities programme with inputs to UNFCCC CoP26 and CoP27 processes on risk-informed urban planning and action. o The Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change 6th Assessment Report, Work Group Two with senior members of Tomorrow's Cities leading a chapter on Cities, Settlements and Key Infrastructure, and an Urban Summary of Policy Makers. • This year, we have been approached by the Royal Scientific Society of Jordan Building Research Centre following our decision to proceed with Nablus in Palestine as the second of our new cities. We are discussing training for RSS to serve as a Hub for the deployment of the TCSDE across the MENA region. 2. Sustainable Development Goals The TCDSE facilitates the democratisation of urban risk planning better to reflect the priorities of the urban poor. The urban planning imaginaries of future cities often exclude the marginalised. Those who live in informal settlements are particularly invisible. In all our cities, TCDSE workshops create spaces for such social groups to be recognised, and democratised understandings of risk empower them to use their priorities to influence decision-making processes from which they are normally excluded. Our work incorporates several SDGs: Building resilience of the poor (1.5) including strengthening gender equality (5C). Reducing human and economic losses in cities (11.5), through disaster management (11.B and 13.1) and climate change adaptation plans (13.2) with strengthened communication. Capacity building for climate change adaptation integrated into broader development activities (9A, 13.3). 3. Gender Equality and EDI The context of each city determines how gender considerations are expressed. In some cities, women-only workshops are seen as providing women with safe spaces to express their particular interests and to have them influence decision making. For instance, in Istanbul we organised separate workshops for women and elderly women. In others, mixed-gender workshops are better for demonstrating parity and the importance of valuing of women's perspectives. City engagements have included hundreds of community members. In Kathmandu, Nairobi and Quito this has translated into gender inclusive workshops, with Quito specifically applying an intersectional framework, which "has also influenced the guild of architects and Quito Municipality both to take into account disaster risk, intersectionality and gender in their urban designs and plans, but also to introduce participatory methods in such work. We have co-developed these workshops alongside municipal authorities and using official channels in an attempt to ensure that these dialogues continue beyond the life of the Hub and are integrated into urban planning policy. We have also observed with interest that all the programme managers at the Hub are women, and in fact, this may be true of all the Hubs. Our Quito Team lead is also a woman, and women lead all of our work packages, except for WP5. Our senior management team (SMT) of four, however, does not currently include a woman after the departure of one of our researchers. This is easily rectified by inviting the Quito Team Lead, who is a member of the Executive Team to join the SMT.

Impact	"Melamchi Municipality faced mega flood disaster in June, 2021. Large part of Municipality has swept away in the flood water, and remaining part become the river bank with sand and bounders. On June 15, 2021, a disastrous debris flow occurred along the Melamchi River in central Nepal. The debris flow event lasted for some 10 hours and caused enormous losses of lives and property in the river exposed communities across the Melamchi Watershed. As a results of cascading disaster ( Earthquake in 2015, landslide block river, and then burst the dam in June 2021), with huge loss and damaged occurred-at least 350 residential buildings, half a dozen of bridges, and many infrastructures. Responding to such mega disaster, the Melamchi Municipality formed a multi-disciplinary expert team, where I was one of the member in expert group to advise from climate change and early warning perspective. We are continuously provide advise on risk sensitive settlement in future, some of our expert members went to upstream of the watershed, did a geological study, and shared the findings. All, these makes the Municipality to build confidence on future settlement planning, and convincing to community people about the possible future flood risk in the area."

The Museo Interactivo de Ciencias had the exhibit during July 2021-February 2022, with a total of 14630 visitors, and later this year, invited Tomorrow's Cities to participate in the activities of the Disaster risk management day in February on a 3 day event with schools on the subject. The Museo de la Ciudad had the exhibit during August 2021-February 2022, with a total of 23838 visitors. It has kept 3 installations in the permanent exhibit up to now. Also, they have incorporated on their own a new introductory video to the permanent exhibit that talks about the geographical setting of Quito and its historical relationship with volcanoes, ravines and rivers, an active seismic fault and steep topography, and the resources and hazards associated to them. The Carmen Alto Museum had the exhibit during May-November 2021, with a total of 6800 visitors and then incorporated two installations in their permanent exhibit. The digital educational platform reducirriesgosenquito.com impact can be measured with its social media accounts as well as Platform traffic: 18,000 visits, 54,000 events, Facebook: 480 likes, 599 followers, Instagram:261 followers We conducted a training course for 21 school teachers from 13 different schools in Quito, both municipal and state run schools for them to use the platform and teach about disaster risk prevention in history, social science, science, math and literature courses. We talked to the Ecuadorian Ministry of Education and Quito Municipal Secretary of Education to promote the use of this tool for disaster risk education and prevention in schools. Their representatives were involved in the launch of the platform. With this experience, we've just been invited to produce an exhibit and memorial for the La Gasca aluvion from January 2022 of more than 30 fatalities, and more than 50 people affected. We are working with the Municipality and the Chamber of Industry to produce together with the community some activities, memorial and exhibit so they can share their story and learn from this experience by sharing how to develop the city to avoid these type of disasters.

While this was initiated by Tomorrow's Cities, provisions for such a group was laid out in the DRRM Act 2017 and Local Government Act 2017 (as a "Ward level Disaster Risk management Committee").
Collaborator Contribution	The Ward of the Lalitpur Municipality are coordinating the activities of this group.
Impact	The Kathmandu team has built strong relationships with decision makers in Khokana at ward level, in particular with the Ward Chair, through sustained and intentional engagement over time. A combination of intentional engagement in Khokana which facilitated listening to the needs of the Ward Chair, with a clear multi-hazard offer have enabled trust to be built. The agreed collaboration with local leaders has supported the operationalisation and the reorientation of the Ward Disaster Management Committee towards greater inclusion in the development of a local risk informed land use plan. This progress at the Ward level is now opening up opportunities for engagement with policy makers at national level.

Results and Impact	On Thursday 3 September 2020, the Africa Research and Impact Network (ARIN), in collaboration with the Nairobi Risk Hub, hosted a seminar on the theme Resilient African cities beyond COVID-19.The Resilient African cities beyond COVID-19 seminar brought together a wide spectrum of stakeholders from diverse fields of urban planning, policy and governance, transport, architecture, disaster risk management and resilience, among others. The discussions were centered on three contexts: The context of COVID-19 and African cities How research can be used to influence resilience post-COVID-19, with empirical evidence being drawn from the following three projects; A systems approach to air pollution (ASAP), Governance of Socio-technical Transformation (GoST) and the Nairobi Risk Hub, all supported through ARIN Current trends in building resilience in African cities and how researchers can respond to the impacts of COVID-19.

Results and Impact	In the context of the exhibition we conducted a guided tour of the exhibition with residents of the Valle del Sur neighborhood. As part of the exhibition we had a space for reflection in which we invited people to share their experiences around disaster risk and if their actions to build their neighborhood would have been different knowing the condition of risk in which they are. In addition, we closed the visit with an exercise in which people wrote on colored cards phrases about risk addressed to authorities or even to their own community, these cards were then placed in the available space we have in the exhibition.

In the first, there were keynote presentations on two topics: 1) The decision support environment (DSE), the modules that compose it and its operationalization in the territory, which was in charge of the Tomorrow's Cities team; and 2) The geophysical and socio-environmental characteristics of the intervention case "Santa Rosa de Pomasqui", in charge of the team of the Zonal Administration La Delicia. These presentations were the starting point to contextualize the expected scope of the intervention. The third moment of the workshop was the "visioning" exercise among the guests.

Results and Impact	This was the first meeting that was specifically dedicated to the flooding issue in Kokhana (Kathmandu), the site chosen for the development of a new smart city. The meeting involved researchers from Tribhuvan University, University of Edinburgh, University of York, as well as partners such as Practical Action and NSET. We visited the site in Kokhana, met local representatives (including the Ward Chairman), exchanged knowledge of the current physical and social "setup" in the Kathmandu basin, and discussed available tools (monitoring modelling) and strategy for the coming year.

Results and Impact	On 9 September Tomorrow's Cities Quito participated in the launch of the College of Architects of Ecuador's Geoportal of the Quito Urban Information Centre. This innovative digital tool allows users to access georeferenced data for the entire metropolitan district of Quito. The Geoportal will provide access to information on types of soil and mechanical properties useful for hazards modelling, urban growth data, environmental services and relevant information for risk management (e.g. public and open spaces, immediate aid units, community police stations, medical centres and other relevant services). Daniel Andrade, Tomorrow's Cities Quito City Lead, said: "We hope to provide scientific information that will be co-produced with our strategic partners. The existence of this geoportal is extremely useful for scientific research". The College of Architects of Ecuador has been a strategic partner of Tomorrow's Cities Quito since 2019. The partnership with the College of Architects of Ecuador will provide key information for Tomorrow's Cities Quito's research, as well as generating data jointly for the city.

During this event we will discuss what hinders effective localisation of resilience and what actions can UN, governments and society take to support local action. GNDR and partners have developed a set of recommendations for how local actors can lead risk-informed development. This event will expand on this work and engage participants in an online discussion that will inform the development of concrete policy recommendations for all of society to accelerate implementation of the SDGs through local action. As a result, international development actors were made aware of how critical local action on multi-hazard issues is, and of Tomorrow's Cities plans to address this through research.

Results and Impact	This was a capacity building workshop funded through the additional GCRF capacity building funding we received from the Scottish Funding Council via the University of Edinburgh. The purpose was to build understanding of and capacity for communication within a challenge-led research programme. The participants included key researchers from the Istanbul team, as well as members of the Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality, and involved engagement with the community leader from a local case-study site, during a site visit. Beyond increasing understanding of the role of communication as a process (i.e. not merely an output) within challenge-led research, participants reported a shift in perspective on the impact that their research and co-production activities were aiming to achieve. We also believe that a key relationship was formed with the community leader, who could play a strong role in the community engagement activities of the Hub. Strong relationships were also formed with two experts in risk communication, who helped deliver the workshop, which provides potential access to global networks in this area as well as potential collaborations on risk communication in Nepal and Kenya.

In the event, Prof. John McCloskey (PI) and Ms. Sangeeta Singh (City Research Lead, Kathmandu) presented on the project, its overall goal, specific impact objectives and the project's goal of focusing on engagement and impact with interdisciplinary research. It was a good platform to discuss and showcase the project's objectives and to highlight the focus of the project on Tomorrow's scenario of Risk. This event was co chaired by the chief of National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Authority (NDRRMA) and Mayor of Madhyapur Thimi Munincipality. It had international attendance by academicians from universities, professionals working in DRR and from government bodies including many municipality personnel, Development Organizations and Funding organizations . Therefore, it was a great platform for more exposure and to spread out the word on the project to a wider range of audience, discussing on the pertinent issues and challenges associated. It also provided Hub personnel to engage and discuss with other researchers associated with other ongoing research projects in the DRR sector in Nepal.

Results and Impact	This was the first Hybrid Multi-Disciplinary Research Workshop Focused on Building Climate Resilience for The Urban Poor (BCRUP) Initiative-Kenya, 2020-2030. The State Department of Housing and Urban Development-Kenya hosted a Partners' meeting towards the implementation of BCRUP initiative on 5th May 2022 at Panafric Hotel, Nairobi. The State Department acknowledged the role of urban and resilience stakeholders, which include researchers and academia. The State Department granted an opportunity to ARIN on behalf of researchers and academia to share potential contribution of risk science and research in the delivery of BCRUP in Kenya. The aim of this follow-up workshop, which took place on the 29th July 2022, was to bring together urban and resilience researchers and academia to deliberate, identify niches and co-develop strategic approach towards catalyzing contribution of multi-disciplinary research to the achievement of the goal and key objectives of BCRUP in Kenya. The workshop underscored the role of Resilience Stakeholders including the researchers and academia as well as the contributions of risk science and research in the delivery of BCRUP. Among the key recommendations generated include the Development of a Joint Plan of Action with clear deliverables and formation of a Research Working Group to support BCRUP implementation. The plan of action will then be forwarded to the incoming ministerial cabinet (after the August general election) to be included in the national planning.

Results and Impact	The 7th session of the Global Platform for Disaster Risk Reduction (GP2022) took place from the 23rd-28th May 2022, organized and convened by the UN Office for Disaster Risk Reduction (UNDRR), and co-chaired by the Government of Indonesia. Tomorrow's Cities Hub hosted this official side-event of GPDRR2022, as a hybrid in-person and online session. The Sendai Framework urges national and subnational governments to address the understanding, quantification and appropriate policies and interventions to manage systemic risk. To open a constructive dialogue on entry points for decision making and action arising from work on multi-hazard urban risk reduction, this session brought together a diversity of perspectives drawing on the experiences of various stakeholders learning from the UKRI-GCRF Tomorrow's Cities Hub. The session advocated that a better understanding of systemic risk can be achieved by promoting people-centred decision making that accounts for the dynamic interactions between multiple hazards, vulnerabilities, capacities, and impacts across space. Our collective experience confirms that this framing enables policy actors to address the challenge of mainstreaming multi-hazard risk reduction into urban planning and development. This primarily consists of opening spaces for actors to engage in collaborative processes that bring local voices and science into policymaking at both city and national levels. This webinar was broadcast in English, with Spanish, and Nepali translation available. 56 attendees participated online with a further 40 in-person.

Results and Impact	On the 7th July 2022 Hub Co-Director Prof Mark Pelling was invited to present at the OECD Workshop on Building Systemic Climate Resilience in Cities. The event was attended by 100 online participants, with speaker contributions focussing on how to build systemic climate resilience in cities, which were considered by the OECD to be "invaluable, enlightening and guiding future policy discussions". Prof Pelling's specific contributions focussed on the time limited opportunity for reducing risk - the opportunity to reduce risk is constrained by urban growth happening now into the next 2 decades. The OECD will use the inputs from the event in the OECD Horizontal Project on Building Climate and Economic Resilience in the Transition to a Low-Carbon Economy, including a paper to be prepared for the COP27.

From the collective discussions of the workshop, a trajectory of urban development in Quito has been characterized. Obstacles and opportunities to enable an urban transition were identified, including how science, history and art could contribute to this process. In particular, participants highlighted that universities can become key actors for generating knowledge and mediating between governments at all levels, as well as with the public. This has informed the development of research and engagement activities for our Quito team, and build key relationships with city stakeholders.

Results and Impact	On 7 August 2020 the Nairobi Risk Hub hosted a consortium of stakeholders at the The Nairobi Visioning Workshop. The workshop brought together key policy actors drawn from the National and County Governments, civil society, UN agencies, professional societies, the private sector and academia. This workshop facilitated the stakeholders to identify a shared vision for a future resilient Nairobi. The participants first identified potential challenges and opportunities towards building resilience for the urban poor. Largely private sector driven development with minimal government regulation stood out as a key impediment to urban poor resilience. While acknowledging the critical role played by the private sector in service provision, participants thus advocated for government regulation of private sector service provision and the need for a balance in both government and private led development to enhance resilience of the urban poor. Secondly, they established the role of science in integrating disaster risk management in urban planning and development processes as a key contributor towards a more resilient Nairobi. By creating a shared vision of a future resilient Nairobi, this workshop was the first step in establishing a Community of Practice around Disaster Risk Reduction. Going forward, this Community of Practice will guarantee continuous contribution to the city's resilience building by either helping guide the research or as participants in the research itself.

Results and Impact	Discussions on the possible data sources for DSE to better represent the Turkish case. They listed the strategy documents that contain the policies and data that can be used for Turkish city case in DSE and shared the addresses of those documents that can be accessed online. OUTCOMES: 1. The possible micro data source for socio-economic part of the DSE that can be used in agent-based modelling is TurkStat's Income & Living Conditions Survey which can be acquired if a Turkish city case study is officially continuing in the project in 2022. 2. The strategies of Turkey to be used in policy bundle (for DRR, urbanization, housing and poverty) in DSE can be found in 11th Development Plan of Turkey, Central Government Yearly Programme for 2022, 3. As a data source for country level but can be used in DSE for the employment-based assumptions on sectors; the National Employment Strategy document is underlined to show the figures of different social vulnerable groups and woman in different economic sectors. 4. The 2019 dated Report that is submitted to UN about Turkey's Recent Developments in terms of Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) is defined as covering many important figures that can be used for Turkish case study in Tomorrow's Cities Project (which is online at the webpage: www.surdurulebilirkalkinma.gov.tr)

Results and Impact	In Istanbul, the Tomorrow's Cities Decision Support Environment will be piloted in a development area within Büyükçekmece Municipality, as part of the Istanbul 2050 developments. In June 2022, Lead researchers from the Istanbul Hub met with the Vice Mayor of the Büyükçekmece Municipality to discuss in detail the collaboration between the HUB and the municipality in order to deliver the pilot project. The meeting led to a commitment from the municipality to assign members of staff and allocate them time to dedicate to the project from the Departments of: Strategic Planning; Climate Change; Social Services; Infrastructure Services; Recreation Services; Information Technologies.

Although the number of the participants quite low, the group was representing a wider disabled community, as one of the participants was a political party's representative, Istanbul Head of Disabled Commission, and a non-governmental disabled organisation representative at the same time. Other two also had public roles in which they had access to the disabled communities, especially those in need of social assistance. Therefore, the observations, expectations, challenges and worries they reflect regarding their present and future lives as well as their surroundings in the scope of DRR was representing almost the entire disabled community.

Focus group discussion (FGD) was conducted on 21st September by Prof. Dr. Sibel Kalaycioglu. Mehmet Kalaycioglu, Emrullah Dar, Ekin Ekici and Emine Öner also attended the meeting. Emrullah Dar made a presentation about the risk and hazards of a potential earthquake in IIstanbul and answered participant questions regarding Büyükçekmece-specific projections. As per the team's requests, the group was gathered by the Municipality authorities, more specifically by the Head of Social Services Division. All the participants were university students coming from four different neighbourhoods with different socio-economic statuses. The group was smaller and the neighbourhood diversity was less than expected. Even though it may not be a representative sample, the participants were able to provide a clear picture of their social and physical environments. They contributed to the discussions to a great deal by expressing their insightful observations, expectations and worries regarding their present and future lives as well as their surroundings. With their significantly high levels of consciousness and awareness, they were able to answer all the questions elaborately. Moreover, because this group is too young, they have no experience of a strong earthquake (such as in 1999) and their disaster perception and experience is different than older groups.

Results and Impact	The future visioning exercise enabled participants to see thoroughly how desired spatial plans created by themselves would look like through the lens of disaster risk reduction policies. We organised the Future Vision workshop with seven community groups who had participated in the Focus Group Discussions having conducted since July in Büyükçekmece case study area. The aims at the visioning exercise with the community are basically to translate their future aspirations into disaster risk oriented future urban environment, to provide guidelines for translation of conceptual visions into qualitative spatial components and participatory design of future land use patterns responding to spatial needs to develop policies. The researchers have come up with a roadmap to guide the facilitators so that they could moderate the round table activities efficiently and aggregate the accurate outputs out of the discussions. Each seven table provided with multilayer maps to present the significant information about the planning area. Since the prioritised risk for the case study area is the earthquake, we used earthquake risk and physical vulnerability maps to be able to explain the participants where the risky areas are located and what are the levels of these risk factors on a spatial dimension. We also prepared a settlement catalogue with diverse density attributes to be able to collect information about what their desired urban patterns are. At the end of the process, we had the opportunity to learn how they rank disaster risks and policies as well as prioritise their assets considering the impact of these risks.

The names of the construction companies in Büyükçekmece district and their contact numbers which are working in different quarters of the district are provided by the Zoning & Building Permit Unit in the Municipality. Results and Impact	The Istanbul Hub undertook several engagement meetings with the Buyukcekmece Municipality, leading to two different project support agreements with them and Bogazici University. Buyukcekmece Municipality contributed by providing scientific background to the meetings, as well as acting as mediators between the local municipality and the Hub, to translate the Tomorrow's Cities Decision Support Environment knowledge into practical terms.

Results and Impact	We would like to tell about the aspiration and future vision stories of the community groups which we had the opportunity coming together in the Future Visioning Workshop. The future visioning activities have been concluded with this workshop and with this event, we have succeeded in translating different stakeholders' visions and aspirations into representations of the future concerning policies and land use. In addition, we were able to understand their priorities regarding impacts, which is invaluable input for WP4 (Risk Agreement) activities. In the workshop, there were 7 different stakeholder groups. In this story we will talk about the work of the youth group.

Results and Impact	United Cities and Local Governments Middle East and West Asia (UCLG-MEWA, found in 2004) is one of the nine sections of UCLG World Organization which is the global network of cities, local, metropolitan and regional governments that promotes fair and sustainable societies characterised by solidarity and based on local democracy, self-government and decentralisation. In line with those aims, - They carry out capacity building activities for municipalities through trainings, workshops, panels and webinars and deliver global agendas to local governments. - They encourage cities to come together, learn and exchange good practices through projects, programs and meetings. Istanbul researchers made a presentation to the general coordinator and two department coordinators of the union in order to get a chance TCDSE to be implemented amongst the international local government members of the union when it is completed.

Results and Impact	United Cities and Local Governments Middle East and West Asia (UCLG-MEWA) Administrative Meetings series took place on 22-25 November. The program included thematic panel sessions on Sustainable Architecture: Smart Living Spaces and the Role of Smart Cities in Combating Climate Change, as well as the UCLG-MEWA Environment Committee Presidency Meeting. Tomorrow's Istanbul Co-Leads Eser and Emin were invited to the UCLG-MEWA Presidential Council Opening Meeting held on November 22. TCDSE was introduced to the mayors and new steps were taken for collaboration ahead.
