Description Use of chemical information whether measured in the real world or modelled can be a useful tool to assess how well a low cost sensor is performing. A prototype web app has been developed to enable non-specialists to use to compare low cost sensor data which they may have against predicted information.
Exploitation Route Once the app is available the tool will be available for both modellers to adapt for use with their modelled data and for low cost sensors to use. The "best practice" work which will come out of the BSI PAS process if an education and dissemination process is undertaken will enable Government and the Public to do better quality air pollution measurements.

PI Contribution UKCEH organised the co-location of 20 Purple Air sensors with the view for supporting development of quality assured data as part of the overall research aim of QUANT to understand and improve low cost sesnor performance and ways to improve this for non-specialist users. The 20 sensors will return at the end of the University of Stirling community engagement project to measure drift. UKCEH also used its chemical transport model (EMEP4UK) to provide the background particulate matter composition at the towns where the community engagement was being undertaken
Collaborator Contribution University of Stirling in collaboration with SEPA are undertaking the main community engagement work. University of Stirling planned and scoped the work. They are planning to test the App which UKCEH is delivering as part of its QUANT research.

Results and Impact Auchencorth field team, Janice Scheffler and Christine Braban supported University of Stirling in preparing and undertaking community engagement at rural community locations in Stirlingshire. This involved quality assuring low cost PM sensors before the work and taking part in one community engagement event. The work intended to raise awareness of air pollution and its sources in small towns in Stirlingshire
