Hartree Northern Ireland (HartreeNI)

Lead Research Organisation: University of Ulster
Department Name: Sch of Computing & Intelligent Systems

Abstract

HartreeNI aims to support SMEs in their drive to invest in digital technology, data analytics and artificial intelligence by supporting them to become more innovative, competitive and productive. We will provide the necessary support and resources to enable SMEs to receive intelligence from analysis of their data, and gain impartial advice, consultation and training on digitalisation technologies. The analysis will be provided by expert computer and data scientists, not normally accessible to an individual SME, supplemented with business support to determine a SMEs digitalisation trajectory and provide a clear pathway to accelerate this, enabling them to be more self-sustaining. Representing a HNCDI poke, HartreeNI will provide a Northern Ireland based facility utilising existing business, academic and industrial networks. Over time this will become an important piece of national infrastructure that enables faster innovation by giving commercial companies access to new technologies and training for innovation, enabling faster adoption of digital technologies, opening new market opportunities and facilitating productivity increases.

The core aim is to assist democratisation and adoption of high-performance computing, artificial intelligence (AI) and data science within SMEs and support their digital transformation journey, thereby increasing the innovation, productivity, and competitiveness across a range of SME sectors in the UK's economic base.
