SKA preconstruction stage 1

Lead Research Organisation: University of Oxford
Department Name: Oxford Physics

Abstract

The Square Kilometre Array is a project to build the world's largest radio telescope. The project is currently in the preconstruction phase, consisting of defining the system requirements, and designing key subsystems. This grant will support the work in several areas, including the design of the Aperture Arrays which will form the antennas for the lowest-frequency part of the telescope; the Central Signal Processing system; and the Science Data Processor, ie the software system that will handle the data from the telescope.

Planned Impact

Impacts outside of academia:

Companies who will directly provide consulting and design services to support the developments under this grant.

Companies who will provide services to the SKA project as a whole once the project progresses to construction and operation.

General public and science educators who will benefit from new discoveries that will be made by the SKA.
