Description On the timescale of this project the Awake collaboration demonstrated proof of principle for the acceleration of electrons in the plasma wakefield of a proton beam at CERN. Repeatable accelation of 600MeV was achieved in the short plasma tube. This particular project delivered a Mach Zehnder Interferometer to assist with measurement of jitter between the laser beams and the RF for the injection linac. Our instrument could measure timing jitter at the level of tens of femtoseconds.
Exploitation Route The next stage for AWAKE to generate more beam current, and more energy gain in a longer plasma. Timing an synchronisation will continue to be critical and more funding has been awarded to continuous improvement.
