Towards freeform optics manufacturing capabilities in Thailand for Space and Astronomical applications

Lead Research Organisation: University of Sheffield
Department Name: Materials Science and Engineering

Abstract

Abstracts are not currently available in GtR for all funded research. This is normally because the abstract was not required at the time of proposal submission, but may be because it included sensitive information such as personal details.

Description Project Partner - Durham University
Organisation Durham University
Country United Kingdom
Sector Academic/University
PI Contribution The main point of the project is to transfer knowledge to the Thai partner (NARIT). The University of Sheffield are providing information regarding additive manufacturing.
Collaborator Contribution The main point of the project is to transfer knowledge to the Thai partner (NARIT). Durham University are providing information on the polishing of optics and traditional optic design.
Impact The design that will be the worked example on this project has been agreed. It is being re-designed so it can be polished successfully. Then a AM redesign can be worked. All of these steps are not about the actual product but are about demonstrating the techniques and methods involved in design and manufacturing.
