AGN feedback in models of galaxy formation
Lead Research Organisation:
Durham University
Department Name: Physics
Abstract
The aim of the project is to explore the effects of feedback from active galactic nuclei (AGN) in theoretical models of galaxy formation. The modelling work will mainly use semi-analytical models, building on the existing semi-analytical model GALFORM. The project will explore the effects of different modes of AGN feedback (radiative, winds, relativistic jets), to discover whether these lead to observable consequences for the global properties of galaxies and AGN, and their evolution over cosmic time. Model predictions will be compared with observational data on galaxies and AGN.

Results and Impact | Royal Society summer science exhibition - I helped out with presenting research undertaken in Durham Astrophysics to general public. The exhibit was about "What is a galaxy" with the aim of educating the general public on the components of galaxies and the importance of the simulation work undertaken at the ICC. |
