Abstract

This project will investigate the way in which complex molecules interact with lipid membranes. The project will involve the characterization of lipid vesicles with varying compositions to mimic different cell types. The interaction of various complex molecules with lipid vesicles will be explored using a range of biophysical techniques including dynamic light scattering, circular and linear dichroism and partitioning experiments. The complex molecules, the lipid bilayers and the interaction of the two, will also be studied using a range of computational tools from molecular dynamics up through various coarse grained techniques. The overall aim is to experimentally determine the properties of these systems and then validate the modelling against the experimental results leading to improved modelling in the future.
