The role of CD8:B lymphocyte interactions in Type 1 Diabetes pathogenesis

Lead Research Organisation: King's College London
Department Name: Immunology Infection and Inflam Diseases

Abstract

The aim of this study is to investigate the contribution of interactions between B cells and CD8+ T cells to Type 1 Diabetes

pathogenesis. The overall hypothesis is that cognate interactions between autoreactive B and CD8+ T cells, specifically B cell

cross presentation of islet autoantigen to CD8+ T cells, contributes to disease by promoting cytotoxic responses which mediate

the destruction of pancreatic B-cells.
