NHS and the relationship between competition and innovation

Abstract

I want to study and model the process that governs the diffusion of innovation in the healthcare sector and how completion-enhancing policies influence this process. I intend to contribute to the existing literature in two ways. First, by providing a novel theoretical approach tot he study of innovation diffusion in healthcare. Second, by empirically testing the relationship between completion and healthcare innovation in the UK. The healthcare sector, especially the British one, has been subject to a number of regulatory interventions and is a fertile environment to find natural experiments. Natural experiments can be used to detect an exogenous variation in the degree of market competition which would be ultimately important to address the endogenous nature of the relationship between competition and innovation.
