Abstract

years of social mobilization represented in the Greek press and activism.
This research will focus on the archival resources of the Greek homosexual, transgender, feminist press, and diaspora activism, to investigate three crucial and recurrent aspects in socio-political debates. More specifically, this PhD project will analyse the use of psychoanalytic frameworks in the endeavour of sexual liberation in Greece, aiming to illuminate the implications of these deployments for the emergence of sexual freedom. Furthermore, it will extend to the analysis of family imaginaries, tracing ways and contexts in which the family was discussed and theorised within that press and associated movements. Non-traditional families and social arrangements are still under negotiation in Greece, making these historical debates resonant within contemporary sexual politics. Finally, places and spaces of desire depicted in those times and movements will be researched to formulate a geopolitically informed and sociocultural account of the desire for sexual and gender emancipation.
These aspects still underline core and ongoing struggles for emancipation in Greece and beyond, and once historically situated and psychosocially contextualized, can illuminate the trajectory of obstacles and opportunities towards more inclusive societies.
