Development of nickel based superalloys for additive repair applications

Lead Research Organisation: University of Cambridge
Department Name: Materials Science & Metallurgy

Abstract

Aim to understand the weldabilty of nickel-based superalloys and build on this knowledge to develop new alloys, or modifications to existing alloys, enabling use for repair applications; namely Material Addition (MA). As such, this project will seek to understand the steps required to optimise the chemistries of nickel-based superalloys for the desired application. The influence of the different elements within the nickel-based superalloys will need to be researched and understood so that the process window of chemistries and their effects on weldability for repair are clear. In addition to this, a clear understanding of how different repair processes and conditions affect chemistries and geometries on the resulting microstructure and properties is desired.
