Analysis and Engineering of Microvesicle Production by CHO Cells

Lead Research Organisation: University of Sheffield
Department Name: Chemical & Biological Engineering

Abstract

Exosomes and microvesicles, collectively known as extracellular vesicles (EVs) are a significant contaminant in industrial cell culture. While tissue-level and whole-organism research has implicated EVs in cellular communication and the spread of viral infection, their role in cell culture is poorly understood. This project will undertake the study of EV populations and their cargo (utilising proteomics and transcriptomics) as well as characterising the response of the culture to increased/decreased EV production, induced via chemical stimulant or gene knock out/interference.
