Show, Attend and Tell: Deep Learning for Medical Image Captioning

Neuroradiologists diagnose and characterize abnormalities in the brain using medical images. They interpret or "read" the acquired images and produce a report of their findings and impression or diagnosis. However, neuroradiological practice has been under severe pressure due to two competing forces: the number of acquired brain images images has increased in average by 10-15% per year since, while the number of radiologists has remained static. A solution is thus desperately needed to optimise the efficiency of neuroradiological practice, to appropriately triage/prioritise image reads, and in some specific and certain conditions, to fully remove the need for human radiological reads.
