Abstract
EPSRC Strategic Theme: Living with Environmental Change (LWEC)
To address critical issues within pollution management, the objectives of this PhD are as follows:
1. Understand how local campaign groups access resources, and the role of resources in the political success of LCGs.
2. Model the interaction dynamics between stakeholders, and how these dynamics influence the decision-making process and outcome.
3. Evaluate the influence of resource exchange relationships, both internal and external, on the ability of LCGS to achieve their goals.
4. Deduce the role of power dynamics that emerge through exchange relationships and make insights into the impact of these power dynamics on the ability of LCGs to achieve political goals.
5. Broader conceptual objective: illuminate role of power and social dynamics within the study of complex socio-environmental systems.
Methods: Ethnographic methods (interviews and participant observation) are used to examine exchange relationships, resources, and power dynamics within the success of LCGs.
