Abstract

Marcin would work in the area of computational star formation/massive star feedback.

Molecular clouds are large reservoirs of gas and dust, which collapse under gravity to form dense star-forming cores. As stars form, jets and winds are produced and interact with the molecular cloud surrounding them. Shocks are then driven into the clouds sweeping up material.
Massive stars are thought to be particularly effective at destroying these environments, and thus at limiting the rate of star formation in galaxies.

In this project state-of-the-art computational fluid dynamics codes will be used to simulate the interaction of dusty flows and/or radiation fields with their surrounding environment. This study will yield significant new insights into the nature of the interaction; for instance, how it depends on the presence of dust and/or on the porosity of the surroundings.
