Description Clear evidence of a relationship between Adverse Childhood Experiences and negative consequences has been demonstrated through a review of longitudinal research. However, there seem to be very few tangible areas for intervention to promote healthy adaptation to Adverse Childhood Experiences (see Hales et al., 2022).
The quality of co-occurring Adverse Childhood Experiences has been highlighted as a potential avenue for intervention in addition to the conventional models regarding the quantity of Adverse Childhood Experiences.
Exploitation Route First, researchers might decide to take our research efforts further and investigate Adverse Childhood Experiences longitudinally rather than rely on cross-sectional analysis. This would substantially improve the research area and provide far greater insights for intervention and prevention. Second, research might decide to investigate the quality of co-occurring Adverse Childhood Experiences which would provide novel insights regarding the effects of specific combinations of adversities. This again would be informative for interventions because it would first indicate which adversities are likely to co-occur together, and second indicate whether distinct outcomes can be anticipated and interventions tailored.
