Regenerating the kidney by restoring the renal microvasculature

Lead Research Organisation: UNIVERSITY COLLEGE LONDON
Department Name: Cell and Developmental Biology

Abstract

The small vessels within the kidney become damaged in patients with renal disease. This project will attempt to use cells to restore the damaged kidney blood vessels which we predict will then lead to regeneration of the diseased kidney. We will test different sources of cells, administration routes and timing of treatment to determine the optimal therapy to improve kidney disease. If successful, these studies could potentially lead to clinical trials using cell-based therapies for renal regeneration and repair.
