Exploring Implementation and Mechanisms of Change in Engagement and Mental Health Outcomes Following the Early Youth Engagement Intervention

Lead Research Organisation: University of Sussex
Department Name: Sch of Psychology

Abstract

It is known that Early intervention from mental health services improves outcomes for young people, yet this patient group remain the hardest to engage. Empirical investigations into the complex factors that affect a young person's ability and willingness to engage are lacking in the literature and more research is necessary to improve patient outcomes. Ultimately my findings will gather important information that can add to this literature and also help identify which elements of the EYE intervention need refining or adapting and, for whom in order to further improve its effectiveness. It will also facilitate the translation of evidence into care guidance by being disseminated to bodies that give guidance in care standards (for example: National Health Service (NHS) Mental Health trusts, National Institute for Clinical Excellence (NICE), Royal College Psychiatrists (RCP) and the Care Quality Commission (CQC)).
