Machine Intelligence for Nano-electronic Devices and Systems (MINDS)

Lead Research Organisation: University of Southampton
Department Name: Sch of of Electronics and Computer Sci

conduct research training through the UKRI Centre for Machine Intelligence for Nano-electronic Devices and Systems (MINDS), a four-year integrated PhD programme. The research will explore fundamental techniques for human-machine collaboration in large-scale future systems such as autonomous/semi-autonomous transportation systems. The increasing use of artificial intelligence methods (both machine learning and automated decision-making) in vehicles from automated safety systems to shared human/machine control raise a significant number of new questions around how people and machines work effectively together. Hsuan-Yang's research will explore the use of reinforcement learning techniques to enable intelligent, embedded systems to recognise human intent and preferences and adapt appropriately, whilst operating within safety constraints. The research will be conducted in collaboration with an industry partner to be determined.
