The Research of Grammatical Neuroevolution

Lead Research Organisation: Bangor University
Department Name: Sch of Computer Science & Electronic Eng

Abstract

My research involves classifying a set of rules called a 'Grammar' for designing the structure of a neural network, which will then evolve using natural selection operators such as reproduction and mutation over a series of generations. Hopefully, by the final generation a network will be developed that can solve the tasks that the user has set such as winning a game of chess! Or a whole range of problem solving challenges.

Grammatical Neuroevolution is a niche subject, so niche that it doesn't even have its own Wikipedia page. But hopefully my thesis will uncover new ways that programs can learn from its own decisions and adapt accordingly to them.
