Abstract
The generation of thrombin plays a key role in blood coagulation and the production of blood clots to minimise blood loss proceeding damage to vessel walls. However, over-production of thrombin can lead to heart attacks and strokes. Due to this, the use of patient-specific, predictive models of thrombin generation can allow us to better infer an individual's risk to cardiovascular disease. This project aims to develop a definitive mathematical model of thrombin generation which will be validated against experimental data from both healthy individuals and those with cardiovascular disease.
