Development of supportive modules for an E-Health Blended Care Pathway

Lead Research Organisation: University of Liverpool
Department Name: Institute of Life and Human Sciences

Abstract

Mental health disorders are ubiquitous. One in six adults in the UK report experiencing a common mental health problem (e.g. depression or anxiety) in any given week, causing considerable personal and economic costs (1). Despite these costs, funding for mental health research and treatments remains disproportionate to those of physical health. Therefore, the need for evidence-based, cost effective mental health treatments is greater than ever (2). The overall aim of this project proposal is to develop supplementary treatment modules for an e-health blended care pathway for mental disorders ('Oh My Mood'). These modules will focus on (i) alcohol misuse, (ii) gambling and (iii) healthy eating behaviours, and will be offered alongside a standard treatment phase (care pathway only). The examination of their feasibility and effectiveness - in terms of reducing the symptomology of mental disorders - compared to care pathway only, will be the focus of this project.
