Multicore Fibre Bundle solutions for OCT Endoscopy

Abstract
The project involves the design and development of an Optical Coherence Tomography (OCT) Endoscopy system. The system will work by using a Multicore Fibre Bundle, which will to transmit an interference signal obtained from a passive Probe-head at the distal end of the Bundle, to a detecting system at the proximal end of the Bundle.
The Multicore Fibre Bundle is flexible and of mm order diameter, allowing it to be passed through the working channel of a Medical Endoscope. The multimode behaviour of the Bundle, however, impacts the the power transmission of the desired interference signal, and so novel optical techniques may have to be employed in order meaningfully recover the interference signal at the proximal end of the Bundle.
The project will involve exploring the multimode behaviour of various types of Bundles and characterising the impact of these effects on OCT. The main objective of the project is to build a working Multicore Bundle OCT Endoscope, that could ultimately be applied into real biomedical imaging practices
